Highly Overrated

While the place has a terrific view of the Bay Bridge, the atmosphere is overrated, the menu is far too limited and the prices are ridiculous for what you get. It was not worth the effort whatsoever. And the fish tanks are no better than what's in a dentist's office. Don't believe the hype.

This used to be one of our favorite restaurants in San Fran. Unfortunately poor service and a limited menu has bumped it from terrific to not worth the money. We made our reservations a month in advance and requested a table with a view of the bay. Did not happen. The waiter treated us like we were an inconvenience. Slow... More

Bread that outclassed local favorite Boudin's; an oyster of the day special on the cheap; and top notch lunch entrees under $20, and it is clear to see that Waterbar is a culinary gem on the Embarcadero. I wish more restaurants would emulate Waterbar. It is stylish yet not pretentious. It's menu is refined, but not complicated. It is fancy,... More

Would definitely recommend Waterbar for it's fresh and creative menu. We all ordered fish and each meal was delicious! The oysters we're amazing too. Lastly fantastic wine list. Highly recommended as a place to go for a nice meal with family or friends in a nice location.

Absolutely Wonderful Vista's of the Bay Bridge-complete w an Art Installation lighting up the evening skyline! Arrived for last of Happy Hour:) restaurant's choice of 1.05$ (they donate to a charity, of which i hv forgotten- & so the odd... More

Located on the Embarcadero, the Waterbar has great views of the bay. There are an extensive menu and wine and spirits lists. Appetizer portions are minuscule and expensive ($14-20). Dinner for four with only one main course and no over the top drinks was over $250 including taxes but before tip. We've had better, less expensive meals along the Embarcadero.

We visit the Bay Area at least once a year and the WaterBar is always one of our first stops. Our most recent visit included a couple dozen oysters on the half shell backed up with Gray Goose Martinis. The staff is "user friendly" and the bay view is incomparable. You won't be disappointed

Amazing place. Beautiful view, food and service outstanding. I recommend starting with oysters or a soup. Both amazing. I went there with 5 more people and there was no delay on getting our plates out at the same time. The servers are very attentive and polite and have great recommendations if you are in doubt about what to order. Do... More

I went to Waterbar on a business dinner. I loved the decoration, location and views of the restaurant and bar, facing the Oakland bridge. The meal was really nice and overall had a great time. I would love to come back with my husband; this is a great choice for a special ocassion.

A rich friend took us here after we already had an early dinner. We all ordered the steak, two of us split the steak dinner and my friend had a whole dinner and took most of it home. The service was good for late at night. I think the kitchen closed at 10 pm and we came at 9 pm.... More

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
