Best cioppino in town!

Best cioppino in town! Definitely big enough for 2, most likely 3 persons of average appetite! Saw a few patrons eating the pasta and sand dabs and will definitely have to go back and try next time! Must visit in San Fran!

Went to dinner and was told wait was gonna be an hour so we grabbed a buzzer and walked out and bar hoped to three different places before coming back here and having dinner. Wait ended up being about 2hrs. This place was totally worth the wait though. The price was $41 for a very generous serving of fresh seafood... More

Everything was perfect, specially if you are after great sea food in SF. They have one of the best clam chowders.

Loved my clams linguini and honestly, I've NEVER EVER had that many clams in a dish like this. Amazing. It was delicious. Side salad was a non-event, though, just sliced thin slivers of iceberg lettuce and a couple of tomato pieces. I wouldn't order it but the main attraction is the amazing entrees. Make a reservation if there are more... More

We just finished our meal at ditto mare and were very pleased. Had the cioppino which was full of excellent shellfish- the crab was wonderful, and the broth was very tasty. Well worth the visit, highly recommended!

Decided to go to this restaurant, as it was rated so highly. The cioppino was very good. We were told it was all fresh seafood. The pasta in the dish was overcooked, but the crab, scallops, and other seafood was very good. Since this was my first experience with this dish, I feel I need to have more cioppino to... More

Delicious Italian fresh fish specialties in this wonderful restaurant. There is also a tiny fresh fish market. Great atmosfere & menu. I love how they recommend other Italian places for dessert since they just do fish!

Came here for dinner with my mother while visiting San Francisco before going to Beaches, blanket, and Babylon. We loved it! Seafood was amazing, prawns and scallops was fabulous and the clam chowder was out of this world. The entire meal was so reasonable as well. If we had more time here we would be back!

Don't let the hectic and somewhat cramped atmosphere keep you out. Their clear purpose is to serve great seafood at a reasonable price without the fuss. They succeed handily. Recommend the Cioppino which was loaded with fresh morsels and easily serves two. We found service to be fast and friendly. Glad we had a reservation. Many less fortunate hoping to... More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
