I can't believe I forgot to review this place. We went there in mid-May during our San Francisco vacation. This restaurant is crowded, noisy, but has the best damn Cioppino we could ever imagine! Granted, we are not Cioppino experts, but we certainly know what fresh seafood should taste like, and this was definitely IT! The broth was amazing, and... More

Again we were surprised by the hospitality. After two years we were still surprised by both the quality and hospitality we found here. A great no nonsense place were everybody can be him or herself. Good, fair food and great people.

This was my second visit to Sotto Mare, and I was so glad I returned! Yes, the restaurant is small and because it's so good, it's crowded and noisy. But the food is so good, and the experience and decor is wonderful. I arrived about 6:30 PM and was immediately seated at the counter where I could watch the preparation... More

We walked through North Beach on Saturday June 1st looking for a nice restaurant to celebrate my husband's birthday at. We looked at pretty much every restaurant on or just off Columbus and choose Sotto Mare because at 5 PM it was packed and everyone eating out on the small patio outside had dishes that looked absolutely wonderful. We cook... More

Possibly the best seafood dinner I have enjoyed in a restaurant ever. Absolutely fresh and very simply but carefully prepared. The house-made stock forms the basis of many dishes and is to die for. My wife and I shared an order of steamed mussels and the prawn-scallop saute and both were outstanding. Our time in SF was too short to... More

This was the last of a bunch of disappointing meals I had in San Francisco. The food wasn't bad, I just think I was let down based on all the rave reviews. The restaurant is fun, and the outside eating is great if the weather is nice, but the food I thought was only OK. I had the Boston Chowder... More

The clam chowder is better than other two restaurants that I tried. The blue choose salad was fresh and crisp. My spouse and I shared the cioppino and it was just fabulous. The scallops featured in the dinner menu were huge. It is a very small restaurant so it does not take reservations. Go early before 545 pm weekdays and... More

Of course you have to eat cioppino in San Fran. We came here for lunch after we dropped our bags off at our hotel. Great lunch. My wife and I had a cup of clam chowder, split the Best Damn Cioppino (there is enough to share) and 2 drinks each. I'm not really a fan of New England style of... More

What else can you say? Probably the best bargain for eating in the Bay Area. Fresh, clean, excellent flavored sea food at prices that don't bust the budget. A fun eclectic place to go, if you can get in. Small, loud, friendly, fun. Well worth the effort to find. My third time and certainly not the last.

My friend & I were there for a dinner. Oysters were good, risotto was perfect... but keep in mind that porions are huge, do share it them!! No desert menu - only seafood!! Service was outstanding too!! Interior wasnt "shiny" ))
