Reservations required, we came back the next evening for dinner at 9pm. Had the fettuccine with bay scallops & the signature cioppino. The food exceeded all our expections. Loved the atmosphere of everyone enjoying their food. Definitely deserves a return trip

Eating at the bar can be a treat, lots of fun ogling the cooks and jabbering with the waitstaff, or it can be an uncomfortable short meal. Our dinner was soooo much fun because 1. The family run establishment wants you to enjoy yourself. 2. The food is seafood done Italian in the best possible way. Oysters fat and briny.... More

The menu is not extensive which is a good thing! The cioppino is the main attraction and for good reason: it was excellent! Two of us shared one portion and were stuffed. It was abundant in crab, clams, mussels, scallops, shrimp and squid. The tomato base was well seasoned and delicious with melded flavors of the seafood (so it didn't... More

We loved everything about Sotto Mare from the funky bar and vibe to the amazingly friendly waitress and even more incredible seafood! Coming from Australia we often think our seafood is great but this place was AMAZING!! I We liked the fact that we could mix orders up a little to suit our individual tastes. Two of us ate the... Good value for money especially for San Francisco. We enjoyed it so much the first time that we went again the following day. Not fancy just good , fresh sea food. Nothing fancy like lobster but if you like oysters and crabs, the latter their speciality - this is a must.

Tucked in between 2 full days of appointments and the red eye back to the East Coast was the opportunity to discover one of San Francisco's amazing cuisine offerings. Went to Trip Advisor and sorted on "Italian" and "seafood." Sotta Mare came up #5 of roughly 5,000. Parking in the area is challenging, so garage or mass transit recommended. On... More

I love this place , a dark bar serving up loaves perfect hot bread and bowls of the best damn cioppino on the planet. I'd go to San Francisco just to eat here! It is everything I could imagine in a seafood joint! Just writing this review is making me want to get in the car and drive the 398... More

I went to Sotto Mare during a recent business trip with some associates, one from the US and one from Korea. We had one more night in the area and were looking for a memorable seafood place. We decided to come here based on other TA reviews and the ability to book a table. We got there about a half... More

We found Sotto Mare online with and thought it was worth a try! We were going to. Each Blanket Babylon and it was very convenient! Before we even got in the restaurant the owner Richie made us feel welcome! We told him we are foodies and enjoy great seafood! He told us to ask for his daughter Rhea and we... More

We were recommended to go here and were most impressed! Wonderful sand daubs enough in one serve for both of us, vegetables were fresh and tasty. Clam chowder was wonderful. Well worth the visit, prices were excellent.
