Bread so good I couldn't leave without it

This is one of my all time favorite sourdough bread spot in the U.S. I have taken layover flights through San Fransisco just to get this bread. (Literally two carry-ons full of their bread.) It is worth the wait And the chowder is to die for too!

For years, my cousin had taken his kids to buy bread sculptures for their birthday His younger one always wanted one of the super large ones. For your bar mitzvah he was told year after year. It's this weekend. See the resulting alligator nearby.

This place Is in a mall. Ordered the crab roll and 2 chowders in a bread bowl and a water. Omg it cost like. $33. Don't get me wrong the soup is delicious and the crab roll was fresh. It's just way too expensive. For soup bread and a sandwich.

Our group was hungry when we spied the sourdough demo in the window. Headed upstairs for lunch. Yep, the bread bowls with soup were fine. Not amazing, but a step above most tourist fare. Garlic fries were great, and the view...if you can snag one...is good. The problem here is factory-like service, and a get them in and get them... More

Had to try this SF institution to see what all the fuss was about and we were not disappointed. Definitely the best Sour Dough Pizza I have ever had, an absolute must if you are in the area.

I know it should be the same quality being the same name and all, but the Boudin on Jefferson has better food, more seating and it just feels better having that great clam chowder on a bowl to fulfill the whole SF experience. And there's always a "show" while they're baking and you get to see through a huge window... More

Excellent position on Fishermans wharf with nice open window to view the bakers hard at work with a few funny concoctions of loafs to look at such as crabs and crocodiles

We visited the bakery portion of the store. We bought some sour dough bread and a jalapeño cheese bread for a snack. Breads were delicious and the smell was great. You can even watch the bakers making bread from the window on the street.

Great atmosphere - holiday time so huge crowds. Ordered the Tasty Tomato soup in a Break Bun. Delicious! Cost reasonable as well.

It's hard to tell from some of thee reviews whether they're talking about the get-in-line-and-order place downstairs or the restaurant upstairs. They're very different. The restaurant has a fuller, more expensive, menu. We ate there and preferred it to the downstairs, crowded area, which still has delicious fresh sourdough bread, but is not as special and is a lot more... More
