Great atmosphere, good service, decent food.

We were walking by looking for a place to eat and came upon a lively sidewalk patio filled with locals. We were seated at the only open table. Service was prompt and helpful, although when we asked for a wine menu one server with limited English told they didn't have one. The food was mostly Italian comfort food (pizza, pasta)... More

No culinary magic here, but we were tired and hungry and this place had a nice little table where we could sit and watch all the other crazy tourists. The wine was good, the chicken parmigiana was good, the service was good. Probably a three star but I gave it four because the overall experience was just what we needed/wanted.... More

Traveled to North Beach via cable car and found this gem of a restaurant. Small and intimate, but classy. Had the BEST handmade spinach fettuccine with fantastic homemade meat sauce, to die for!! Shared a wonderful bottle of Moscoto with hubby. Lamb with polenta was perfect. Would definitely recommend!!!

Food - 5 (Desserts - 5++) Service - 5 (Like family friendly) Ambience - 4 (Think small sidewalk caffe') Price $$ Nice wine selection, by the glass or 1/2 bottle. Dessert is a MUST!!! Espresso! My best friend growing up was Italian, like parents fresh off the boat Italian. The warmth, the smells, and family style food very much reminded... More

Not a recommendation. I was hoping to find a locals restaurant rather than a tourist trap and at first glance this looked just outside the main trap areas and filled with locals. the menu also looked interesting with a good selection, although slightly overpriced for what was listed. Oh what a disappointment. The food was cooked to death, the salad... More

We tried this place on a friend's recommendation. Overall it was really good. All of us enjoyed our meals. I had the veal parmigiana which was excellent. The veal was well prepared and flavorful. The service was great; our waiter was very friendly. There's nice views of the park across the street. it was a nice meal after enjoying a... More

The mista salad to start was excellent (Gorgonzola, roasted hazelnuts, Apple and fresh lettuce). The fettuccini bolognase was a little salty, the pasta a little over cooked but still pretty good, a huge portion. The house red was very quaffable (three glasses testify to that) and the service was first class. Sitting outside under the heaters was a great atmosphere.... More

We chose Piazza Pellegrini for a taste of North Beach Italian in San Francisco. The food was ok, but nothing I would return for, or recommend to others, given the variety of other excellent restaurants in the neighbourhood. The tomato sauce on the spaghetti was good, but the meatballs were surprisingly flavourless, and ground so fine as to have little... More

This restaurant had great reviews on Urban Spoon. We went with high hopes of a great Italian meal. Although the food tasted good it was just so-so for the price. Nothing bad but nothing to write home about.

Staying in Russian Hill

Neighborhood Profile
Russian Hill
Russian Hill has evolved into a chic residential neighborhood with outstanding views from every corner. Combined with several great cafes, restaurants, antique shops and boutiques, it’s easy to see why any visitor would gladly leave their heart in San Francisco. Cars line up day after day to drive down Lombard Street, the “crookedest” street in the world, and make the slow creep downhill past charming period homes. Polk Street is the main drag in this neighborhood, where you will find trendy bars, cafes and shops populated with locals, but for one of the most charming rides in the city, grab a cable car heading up and down Hyde Street.
