Excellent Service and Food!

We were walking in this area taking photographs and we needed at least an hour for the sun to be further round in the sky to light up the facade of this beautiful building. What finer place to fill in an hour than the very location we wished to photograph. From a fine menu we had home made broccoli soup... More

I booked Cafe Zoetrope based on my love for all things Coppola and brought my wife and mother in law for dinner. Positives - lovely room, amazing building and the movie memorabilia, for a fan, is wonderful. The food was good, large servings, but nothing exceptional. The service was good from some of the wait staff. Negatives - unfortunately our... More

Had a pleasant experience here sitting on the patio drinking a bottle of Francis Coppola Reserve. The patio is pretty small but it wasn't very busy so it wasn't an issue.

Great menu and service! They had the best gluten free pasta with meatballs :). Started with a very fresh fennel orange salad that was fantastic! Laid back atmosphere and cozy, historic decor.

We managed to snag an early reservation before a show at this small cafe owned by Francis Ford Coppola and were glad we did as the place filled up immediately afterwards. The menu is good basic Italian food--not fancy, just good. The ambiance is Ford memorabilia from movies and wine. It felt like a small neighborhood hangout. Would love to... More

again this is really about ambiance - if your a movie fan its definitely worth a look, great decor with alot of film memorabilia as after all this is Francis place. Food is simple but good and teh wine (his own) heady stuff. shame tripadvisor goes from average to very good - this place is actually neither its just good

Nice restaurant serving excellent wines and italian pastas. We went for the meatballs pasta, it was a real treat. The carbo arra missed seasoning and cream. Good pinot noir, and very friendly service. There's a good vibe in the restaurant, with a lot of nice pics of Francis Ford Coppola. We loved it.

I don't usually comment on the pace of a restaurants service, but oh my this place was so slow. And it was not on a busy night either. The food was average, nothing that I remembered or would come back for. We are not the impatient type, but I felt like I only saw my waiter once every 30 minutes.... More

What's not to like about Cafe Zoetrope? A classic flatiron building (saved from destruction by Francis Ford Coppola, who grew up in the area), great food with excellent service. I stopped in mid-afternoon on a hot San Franciscan day; I had only planned to have a light snack and something to drink, but wound up having an early dinner and... More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
