Delightful Dinner at Cafe Zoetrope

We had a delightful meal at Cafe Zoetrope. Service was very good. I am impressed also at the staff's ability to walk those stairs from the kitchen to bring us the delightful food. We enjoyed their special gnocchi for the day; as well as their very good Argentine short ribs. My husband had... read more

Tonight my wife and I needed simple fresh food of normal proportions and this place hit the spot.. We were amazed to learn about its celebrity connection but more to the point the Mexican waiter was charming and willing to discuss our needs and the wine, A nice touch was that they split thier signature Caesar Salad into two as... We had the Picada Tray and several of the tasting reds. "Tasting wines" is the way to go. $8 per glass or 3 for $15. Yep...i went for 3 for $15...you do the math. Good atmosphere..you can sit at the window and watch the rest of the world go by. Food was excellent..good variety in the antipasto and plenty to... More

Went here for a business dinner and was very happy with the food, service, wine, and - most of all - the atmosphere. Cafe Zoetrope feels like a restaurant in Europe - it is small but not crowded inside. The setup is friendly and inviting - we ended up talking to the people at the next table over for much... More

My husband and I were staying close by and decided on a rainy night to duck in here for dinner based on the cafe atmosphere. It is very European in feel and artwork covered the walls. If you are a film buff, you will find items that will catch your eye. We were seated in the front part of the... More

Like a European cafe--outside and in. Tall walls smothered in photos, menu sketches, and film memorabilia from Coppola's eponymous Zoetrope production company. Wine was good, the cheese platter a bit wimpy for the price...those were the skinniest two slices of Manchengo I'd ever seen. We didn't have a full meal, but did enjoy the wine. I felt like I paid... this historic building faced our hotel across the street. the food and the decor was fantastic, and we enjoyed the famous owner's personal interest in having a quality experience. this was where the caesar salad was invented in the 1920's, when it was caesar's grill. try the original!

We were spending the day in San Francisco and taking friends to lunch. They chose this small, intimate wine bar and restaurant and we were so happy that they did! We had a reservation and were seated promptly at a nice table by the bar in the front part of the restaurant. We enjoyed the art, which decorated most of... More

A great wine bar and restaurant. My daughters recommend it and it was very nice. Good wines from the owners winery. Fine Italian menus, great pastas and pizza. The service was excellent, made good recommendations. You must try there spaghetti with meatballs.

Just popped in to look around. Prices are not too bad and atmosphere is relaxed. The initial impression whilst passing is that it is very upmarket and not worth trying. The wine was good and the choice is impressive. just sat watching world go by. It was 1800hrs and dark.

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
