Nice restaurant serving excellent wines and italian pastas. We went for the meatballs pasta, it was a real treat. The carbo arra missed seasoning and cream. Good pinot noir, and very friendly service. There's a good vibe in the restaurant, with a lot of nice pics of Francis Ford Coppola. We loved it.

I don't usually comment on the pace of a restaurants service, but oh my this place was so slow. And it was not on a busy night either. The food was average, nothing that I remembered or would come back for. We are not the impatient type, but I felt like I only saw my waiter once every 30 minutes.... More

What's not to like about Cafe Zoetrope? A classic flatiron building (saved from destruction by Francis Ford Coppola, who grew up in the area), great food with excellent service. I stopped in mid-afternoon on a hot San Franciscan day; I had only planned to have a light snack and something to drink, but wound up having an early dinner and... More

Lovely little cafe where you can sample the francis ford coppola wines and enjoy a nice range of Italian dishes. The decor inside is interesting and full of character. Staff are friendly.

We were part of a group from Monroe, MI touring wine country and stopped at this café to eat. What a delicious meal. Reasonably priced and large servings. We mostly ordered different meals and by the time all was said and done, everybody was bragging how good their meal was that everybody shared a bite or two, and there was... More

Ordered calamari and a Ceaser salad. Both were good and of course the ceaser salad was excellent. If you are going to be in town and are craving Itallian you have to stop here and eat. You may want to make reservations as it is small and a popular place. They got a 4 out of 5 because the waiter... More

From their website: Named for owner Francis Ford Coppola’s innovative film studio, American Zoetrope, Cafe Zoetrope is located in the majestic Sentinel Building, a San Francisco historic landmark in the heart of North Beach. Cafe Zoetrope is a European-style cafe that serves authentic Italian cuisine as well as international specialties, and features an expansive wine selection, including premium offerings from... More

This restaurant is owned by Francis Ford Coppola and is known for it's beautiful but quaint setting and it's Italian food. The food was terrific, my wife had Chicken Scarpiello and I had the Spaghetti Pomodoro. Both were wonderful with ample portions and when you top it off with some of his wine from his winery in Sonoma County it's... More

This is an interesting building with a restaurant tucked in. The walls are filled with the movie sets of Francis Ford Coppola and his wines are available. The tables are cozy and tucked in for an intimate setting. The food is very good with a great selection of pastas and italian food. Delightful!

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
