We had a great meal here, sea food risotto, gnocchi, Casper and crab salad, and squid ink risotto with scallops. Everything first rate, good service.

Lets start with the bad......our server was nice but clueless.....I actually had to beckon him over to wait on us. At the end of the evening a large party appeared and he quickly flew in their direction leaving us to fend for ourselves with the bus staff and ultimately the owner..... Fortunately we've dined here before and we know that... More

avoid the poor 'caesar' salad: chopped romaine with no evidence of authentic caesar dressing, more like olive oil; any crab had left our salad for another dish. The pappardelle with wild boar ragu is disappointing: the tomato base in the rage overwhelms any meat/boar flavor. The ahi tuna on risotto is OK. Nice rare seared ahi tuna piece sliced over... More

I've been going to Capannina several times a year for the last few years, and had consistently enjoyable experiences. My favorite meal would be the crab followed by the black truffle pasta (in season). It's one of the rare places where truffle is reasonably priced, so it's totally worth it when it's on the menu. The staff has a number... More

We had an excellent meal in this restaurant. The bread, the wine, the wait staff, the location.....it's all good. We sat next to a couple from San Francisco and this is their favorite. We were referred here by another local couple. It was well worth it.

Waited late to get a Saturday reservation in the North Beach area, but found Capannina as I looked for Italian. Was able to secure an 8:30 PM res and we departed Telegraph Hill and began walking to Capannina, all the while thinking, "Is this really worth it?" as we trudged up Union Street from Washington Park. Well, the answer was... More

If you want good Italian food, this is a great spot. Not only is the food good, Michaela and Sergio take great care of you! I had the Pork Cutlet which is served with a tricolor salad. I put some of the salad on top of the cutlet and it was delicious. My husband had the Veal Marsala which was... More

I stopped in for first time and had exquisite Italian wine and prosciutto ravioli. Meal came fast and hot and was absolutely perfect flavor and taste and $18 was great price for ample food. Waiters were all knowledgeable about the dishes. There are about 4 dishes that are made in house and are excellent. I visit once a week. Mike

On Union Street, an understated, elegant restaurant. The service was excellent and unobtrusive. (Not to mention the lovely Italian accent.) The waiter helped us choose a wine, giving me a small taste before I made my choice. We shared the pappardelle with with wild boar sauce as a starter. It was delicious, and the waiter split it for us. I... More

Staying in Marina District

Neighborhood Profile
Marina District
Beautiful homes, beautiful people, and a beautiful backdrop of the Golden Gate Bridge welcome visitors to the Marina. Originally the location for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915 (whose remnants can be seen at the Palace of Fine Arts), much of the land was filled and flattened to accommodate a world’s fair. That ample space has given way to a jogger’s paradise at the northern edge of the city. With the picturesque bay setting as its backdrop, it’s no surprise that the area has hosted numerous movie productions. Daytime activities focus on café culture and boutique shopping, while the evenings turn this neighborhood into a party-going hotspot.
