Golden Gate Bakery has gained a lot of tourist momentum - usually there is a massive line waiting outside to get an Egg Tart. I've tried it and it's good, don't get me wrong, but also the most expensive in Chinatown. I'd recommend trying other places as the quality is just as good (as long as they're hot!), but for... More

I relied on Yelp for good bakeries around Chinatown-San Francisco area and was not disappointed. Eggtart wasn't my top 5 desserts but since I was there, I had to try it and it was delicious! It was piping hot too so be careful...The crush was flaky and the inside was soft and buttery. I got 2 to go...for myself. Can't... More

We read about the Golden Gate Bakery before visiting San Francisco and are glad we stoped not only for an egg tart but also for other sweet and spicy specialties. Basically 1 of each untill we ran out of cash... YUMMY! So happy we did!

So I read all the reviews on this bakery and had to stop by for their egg tart and the almond cookies. Mind you, I had stopped by another bakery the night before in chinatown, mostly because I was lost. So I finally get to Golden Gate Bakery and I was a bit disappointed. The egg tart was nice, but... We were wandering around Chinatown and a man walked by us with a pink bakery box with yummy smells wafting out of it. We didn't think much about it until we stumbled upon a line up going 1/2 way down the block! We couldn't even see into the bakery due to the crowd so we had no idea what we... More

If you like HK egg tart, this is the place to go. The bakery is small and there's always a line. Sometimes they closed for months for vacation so call in advance. The egg tart is sweet (but not too sweet) eggy custard with a flaky buttery crust served warm.

If you get nothing else from this bakery you MUST try their coconut macaroons. We bought 6 of them and 6 almond cookies and finished all before we were out of Chinatown. On the Sunday that we were leaving SF, we called the bakery to find out if they were open and if they had macaroons and almond cookies. They... More

I was looking for a bakery before my work meeting and saw this as a close option. I was a little skeptical but the pictures looked awesome so I thought I'd give it a go. Wow, the egg tarts were so good. I want to come back here and bring some home next time. Just be careful, they can be... More

I was checking out Chinatown and simply had to try one of their egg tarts. I'd read (on Yelp obviously!) that they are really good and I had to get me one! I got there and, as expected, it was pretty busy. I was lucky in that there was no line but it was a little bit crowded in there.... More
