After walking a mile plus on SF hilly roads with empty stomachs we finally made it to Katana-ya. This place is he real deal. The amenities were not anything to write home about but we went there for good ramen so who cares. My wife and I ordered the Katana-ya Ramen and our friend ordered the Fried Chicken Ramen. The... So it's the BBQ pork ramen all the way! Choose the miso broth & extra spicy if you enjoy spice without it being blow your head off spicy! So delicious. Waiting on Geary can be a touch sketchy with all sorts bombarding you for money but hang around this place is worth it!

The food is good to excellent but the food/ambiance to cost ratio is outstanding. The food is Japanese but Katana-ya doesn't pretend to be in Ginza; hey, unwind - this is San Francisco. I really enjoyed my extra spicy miso ramen; the noodles were above average but not outstanding. The rest of the bowl was outstanding, not too spicy but... More

Awesome Japanese at a reasonable price. Knocking down one star just because of the massive lines to get into the place.

Fantastic sushi/sashimi, and some if the best ramen that I have ever had. I came relatively late in the evening, but inky had to wait about half an hour. The place was >packed<. the food, though, is well worth the wait. Prices were reasonable, too.

This place is intimate and has great food. The layout is great, so even though the restaurant is small, it doesn't feel that way. The udon was fantastic and the service was very polite without being overbearing. The atmosphere was just right. If you love Japanese food, you'll enjoy this place.

Nothing too fancy; just great ramen, decent beer on tap, and a fun atmosphere. I could see myself frequenting this place, if only I lived in San Francisco!

I was still adjusting to the time change so I came in for an early dinner at 5pm and I was the only customer. Staff was speaking to each other in Japanese throughout my visit, which I didn't mind, but thought I would mention for those of you seeking authenticity. Started with an ahi poke salad, which was overdressed. Had... More

This place was right across the street from our hotel and the sidewalk was lined with waiting patrons, so we knew it had to be good. We quickly searched some online reviews and added our name to the list. Fifteen minutes, he said. In just about that amount of time, he beckoned us and led us down a staircase into... More

We eat here each time we visit SF, and we are never disappointed. It's small and there's usually a wait, but it's definitely worth it.
