Breakfast Visit

Took breakfast in Roots during a short stay at the Orchard Garden Hotel. Very attentive waiter served us some well presented food offering us all the options available with our selection. Worth a visit. Didn't get chance to try lunch or dinner due to our schedule.

Hidden gem. The waitress was so nice and talked to us while our food was coming. The waitress suggested a vegetable soup after my mom asked. The chef made us a delicious vegetarian soup along with the other yummy food we ordered. Definitely recommend!

We had discovered Roots years ago, then forgot about it. It came up on Living Social and we rediscovered this wonderful, little -- and hidden -- restaurant. It is inside a common door with the Orchard Hotel. But don't let that fool you -- it is a WONDERFUL little restaurant. Unfortunately, we were in a hurry when we went, but... More

Just got back from Happy Hour. This is the worst food I have ever eaten in San Francisco. We had the Chicken wings which I wouldn't have recognized if I hadn't ordered them. The Ribs we ordered had no bones and were gelatinous. Do not waste your time or money on this Happy Hour. We should have taken the empty... More

Accommodations were made when there was a couple items missing from menu and free ice cream provided in lieu. Our children were warmly welcomed in our "tourist's" attire despite the classy atmosphere. No need to search for organic on menu as according to website, it's San Fran's greenest hotel!

Roots has the best food I've had in San Fran- my partner says his was the best burger he's had in America- and he is picky. I think the business would improve if you could see it was a restaurant from the street. At the moment it's just hidden within the hotel, but the food is delicious and the service... More

This was a recommendation from a friend who lives in SF. Located inside the Orchard Hotel on Bush Street near Grant and China Town, this was a lovely, elegant and relaxing place for dinner. Service was attentive and the menu choices were creative Asian-Fusion selections. I ordered salmon and am extra-critical, coming from the Pacific NW. It was perfectly prepared.... More

I had a great experience at Roots restaurant - the burger was very good and Lauren makes the best martini I've ever had - the Zentini - a very fresh and light ginger martini! Yum!!

This place fools you by being empty. The food is amazing. We shared Short Ribs and Pizza and it was probably some of the best food in the city. And the prices were great. The bad news is they are closed for lunch. What? I would go there once a week for lunch if they were open. The decore and... More

Neighborhood Profile
Chinatown
As the oldest in North America, San Francisco's Chinatown is an exotic experience. A unique neighborhood decorated with colorful shops, historic streetlights, hanging lanterns, and pagoda roofs awaits behind the stone-carved dragon gates. Feast on dim sum at the tea houses, or meet the locals who gather at historic Portsmouth Square to play chess or practice Tai Chi. Fish markets, produce stands, tourist shops, jewelry stores, fortune tellers, temples and restaurants come together to create a world unto itself in this historic neighborhood.
