I had one of my favorite meals at Perbacco. the restaurant has great atmosphere and the food was beyond good with attentive but not cloying service. We had a number of dishes, all terrific, with the highlight being a truffled short rib pasta that was to die for. Can;'t wait to go back.

We went for lunch on a weekday and sat at the bar. The bartender was outstanding. He knew every little detail about the food and was a pleasure to talk with. We had the beet salad which tasted great and was gorgeous. Also had the squid and the RABATÒN (gnocchi made with ricotta, herbs and spinach). I can still taste... More

We had read the recent reviews about the lackluster flavor of the dishes and unfortunately they were spot on. Compared to our meal at SPQR a day earlier there was a night and day difference. The server seemed absent minded and we had to repeat our requests and eventually ask another staff passing by for assistance. We would not dine... More

Really good quality Italian food - not home-cooked like mama used to make but high end (both have their place of course). Service was good although they were initially reluctant to seat our group of 7, which seemed odd. Only disappointment was a flavourless panacotta but 7 out of 7 of my group were impressed with their food. Worth a... More

Dined solo at the bar. The agnolotti pasta was superb, and so was my main course of roast scallops in lobster and seafood sauce. Creative and delicious wine pairings from the bar tender. Finished with decadent dark chocolate mousse. Not too expensive, very nice way to finish my trip to San Francisco.

Salumi - okay- nothing to wow the palate. Octopus - make sure you dont have dentures or jaw problems. The potatoes were at least soft. Coujeitte - gross Gnocci that fell apart and a sauce lacking lamb Short rib agnalotti- fresh with initial flavor explosion - absent black truffles Lemon Thyme Panacotta- delicious fusion of flavors. The sorbet was perfect.... More

Good sign that this place is always busy. The food and service are excellent. They have a good wine list with lots by the glass or carafe. I've been a few times now and always liked it. It's not stunning food but is all very nice and tasty and well cooked.

Every meal I've had at this restaurant has been amazing. Their menu changes constantly because they develop recipes based on seasonal fresh food. I could eat there many times and never get tired of the food.

pluses: really excellent italian food........we loved every dish; extensive italian-heavy wine list; reasonable corkage policy; our server was first rate and her timing laudable and the food prices were quite good for central san francisco minuses: bit noisy; atmosphere was just ok

Staying in Financial District

Neighborhood Profile
Financial District
The Financial District lies just east of Chinatown but can seem a world apart given it’s San Francisco’s version of Wall Street. The rush of business people make up a hectic weekday and add to a frenetic pace of life, but visitors who spend a few hours walking the narrow streets will be rewarded with fine examples of historic and contemporary architecture, including the iconic Transamerica Pyramid. After business hours, bars and restaurants quickly fill up with happy hour revelers. Stocks aren’t the only kind of market being followed, the Ferry Building Marketplace on the Embarcadero is a gourmet food emporium and farmers market that will satisfy anyone working up an appetite.
