Music in your mouth

When I see a restaurant like Bar Tartine with reviews ranging from excellent to "what the heck?|, I know that it will be interesting. And it was. I agree with all the previous posts, creative, well prepared, beautifully presented and very professional service but the website doesn't prepare you for the fact that all dishes are meant to be shared. Two of us ordered the trout, liver wurst, beet salad and the chicken. I can't tell you how wonderful each dish was prepared but it was too... More

I came to Bar Tartine  with hig expectations having been reading passionately their books and practicing on many of the recipes. Also, brunch is a tricky meal that traditionally in US means a big load of pankakes and omelettes  various stile usually without too much of creativity and culinary tecnique (there are exceptions of course) The brunch at Bar Tartine... I saw an ad with picture on "Tasting Table" for the Sauerkraut Soup from Bar Tartine. I knew immediately I had to have it. It looked delicious. I am from German decent and we have sausage and sauerkraut casserole which is very good but this Slovakian Kapustnica was unbelievably good. Amazing combination of sauerkraut, dry Chorizo sausage, potatoes, serrano and... More

I was fascinated by the open faced sandwiches advertised here, and the décor and atmosphere were really attractive, so I had high hopes. The tartines looked really interesting and gourmet, but unfortunately I didn’t love the taste too much. The meat one was a little too meaty (though not bad), the kale one was a bit underwhelming, the jam on... More

We enjoyed our evening here - had the friends and family menu with the pairings - next time we would order on our own. Hands down favorites: lentil croquettes, sweet potato salad, pork meatballs, beef tartare on toast and the carrot salad. We'd probably skip dessert but worth trying your first time...great room, service was knowledgable and enthusiastic.

The good: The smoked potatoes are fantastic. Get them. I would never have expected that the flavor would permeate the skin of the potato, but they're rich and flavorful. Definitely the highlight of my experience. The bad: I didn't really feel a cohesive theme across the menu (in fact, it's REALLY all over the place), and while I think a... More

At Bar Tartine, I'm happy to try anything on the menu. Even if some components aren't my favorite, I end up loving every dish. There are multiple layers of flavor in every plate. This is a great place to order family style and share.
