Unusual Menu Selections, Good Food

My wife and I consider ourselves foodies and we eat almost anything but initially this menu seemed strange even for us. There did not seem to be anything we would be comfortable eating.  Our daughter had made the reservation, on the strong recommendation of a good friend, whose judgment is usually... read more

A lot of people recommended trying Tartine and though the food was good, it is not jaw-dropping. Prices are steep for the plate sizes (+ concept is to share). The menu has unusual suggestions not always worth trying.

Incredible sense of creativity and variety. A MOST memorable restaurant for a foodie. Foodies: order the pre fix menu, plates are small but if solo eat only a few bites of each cause the amazing stuff keeps coming. Creativity: 100, How can they have this much unique variety dish to dish: ????? Thematic and hangs together across the meal....of course... More

We planned a private business party at Bar Tartine and 'bought' the restaurant for 3 hours. We invited VIP customers and prospective partners and lured them there with the promise of amazing, unique food. The food, the staff, the Chefs all exceeded our expectations and gave our guests one of the most memorable dining experiences we have ever had. We... More

You order a series of small plates, based on Eastern Europe cuisine. All very good. The prix fix menu looks great, although very expensive.

When I see a restaurant like Bar Tartine with reviews ranging from excellent to "what the heck?|, I know that it will be interesting. And it was. This is food as postmodern music - not always approachable, sharp contrasts in texture and flavour, I didn't always understand it. I don't see how it would work a la carte - you... More

I agree with all the previous posts, creative, well prepared, beautifully presented and very professional service but the website doesn't prepare you for the fact that all dishes are meant to be shared. Two of us ordered the trout, liver wurst, beet salad and the chicken. I can't tell you how wonderful each dish was prepared but it was too... More

Staying in Mission District

Neighborhood Profile
Mission District
From burritos to bicyclists, the Mission is the foundation for all things hip in the city. Cultural attractions, an independent arts community, sumptuous street murals and a high density of bars and cafes make this neighborhood a magnet for young people. While terrific inexpensive food is abundant, its top-of-the-line restaurants now compete with the city’s best for fashionable diners. Indulge as the locals do by heading to Mission Dolores Park, buy some ice cream, and savor one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the country.
