We visited Tartine after reading lots of reviews, which all stated that it was worth a visit. We booked a table for a thursday night, which was necessary, as it was really busy the whole time we were in. We had a great warm welcome, and the atmosphere was really chattery, and bubbling - great! The drinks menu was limited,... More

Bar Tartine isn’t for everyone. I must admit that when I first arrived and saw the menu, I thought seriously about leaving. But we had come a ways to get there, so my wife and I decided to stay. We are very glad we did. We had an interesting, very tasty lunch served by very nice people. We had little... More

The restaurant is devoid of any visible outside signs. Once inside this rather busy restaurant is a beehive of eaters all imbibing on the food and drink. The menu offers a short but diverse series of dishes in portions to be shared family style. The kale and the beef tatare were specially good. The suggested wine was excellent. The bread... More

We had dinner here and really appreciated the fact that the menu is so healthy - full of vegetable based dishes. It is sometimes difficult to eat healthy food when you travel. Service is good - staff friendly and efficient. Nice ambience and good little wine list. Great bread to start and then we shared a selection of dishes including... More

We went to this place because of the rave reviews. As we viewed the strangely unappetizing menu on the window we have second thoughts, but decided that the good reviews justified the risk. Wrong. It was all truly bad (except the bread, which is not included with your meal). We ordered a lot of items thinking that each one would... More

Liked it with reservations - as a true, Eastern European Bohemian (Czech basin for those who went to public school), I can't imagine going back to enjoy my people's food, constantly. It reminds me of Benu, in the idea that it's an experience you sort of must have to understand the diversity of San Francisco's dining scene, but it's not... More

This is a fun, open yet inviting environment with a very creative menu of light bites for dinner. Our group of four tried no less than eleven "small plates" items on the menu and each one was equally tasty. The bread with kefir butter, dill brine pickles and beets with goat cheese were a great start. Then it was on... More

Had to change twice to get there in the morning but did it willingly every day... Joined the Q of coffee worshipers... Anything for a morning bun ... Sticky, sugary..deliciously just out of the oven.. I still dream of them and that cafe...it was a big part of my trip...loved it, the coffee also good, the space, really cool also.... More

Sat at the bar since all tables were booked. But the cooking made up for it. Of course wonderful sourdough bread, and many little dishes that were truely tasty.. good service also and reasonably priced. Definitely worth a visit.

Bar Tartine was wonderfully delicious in a welcoming spot in the Mission. We split the Everything Sandwich, a hearty two-hander on freshly baked and toasted bread filled with lox, fancy cream cheese (quark), crisp lettuce, capers, fresh tomato and herbs. Drinks: beet Mimosa and a Prickly Pear punch cocktail. My husband is one of the only people I know who... More
