Ame should aim for Terra

Recently we enjoyed Terra in St.Helena - and so we decided to visit Ame (same owners) after some time of not having been there. The reception desk was kind and helpful - as we requested a location with more privacy and not placed between some noisy tables. Neverthelss there is some absence of... read more

This is a very clever restaurant. It's in a hotel but we wouldn't downgrade it because of that. In some way's the plates have that austere pared-back Japanese aesthetic but the room is warm, small and sophisticated. We had a crudo special which was tai with olive oil and sea salt - exquisite and relying pretty much only on the... More

We don't usually go for hotel restaurants but we were tired on arrival in San Francisco and it was the easy option. And it was a good option too. Great food and good service. We've marked it down slightly on ambiance and atmosphere - not that it was bad it just didn't quite have the buzz of the Boulevard restaurant... More

The food at ame is exceptionally well prepared with fine attention to detail. The flavors are rich and multi layered. The fusion of different cuisines is impressive. I strongly recommend the tasting menu with wine pairing. The downside of ame is the service. It was ill paced, terse, and at times bordered on condescension. Our party of well educated foodies... Perfectly cooked noodles. Rich broth. Succulent pork belly. I am a Ramen aficionado and this is one of the best in the world! Really -- had ramen in Tokyo, L.A. and lots of other places.

The food was ok. But service was great. The food was Asian cuisine but it seemed over priced to me. I wouldn't come back here again

I found this restaurant to be “Excellent” based on the food and service received for the money. We chose this restaurant for a birthday party with eight people based on TA reviews, its inclusion in the Chronicle’s Top 100 Restaurant list and its Michelin star rating. It is situated in the St. Regis Hotel. We enjoy Asian cuisine so we... More

I had a late business meeting at the St Regis in San Francisco that carried into dinner. Not knowing the area and where the nearest top restaurants were, we decided to just try Ame at the St Regis. What a pleasant surprise, the meat was excellent the flavor of the restaurant was Asian Fusion. The fish was fresh, the sushi... More

Good service. Excellent food. Impressive wine menu. The restaurant is a little bit expensive (tasting menu) but it worth a visit. I recommend and will be back

Had dinner on Christmas Day there. Excellent service, polite, attentive, and knowledgeable. Beautiful amuse bouche-uni on a nori chip with a mint foam. Also, loved the desserts

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
