An awesome restaurant

We ate at Maverick on a Sunday night after a lot of good restaurants. The restaurant is in an area that appears to be in transition and seems very interesting. This is a wonderful cozy restaurant that serves fresh, inventive, seasonal American food. Mike, the owner, is extremely knowledgeable when you need help ordering wine. The food is delicious. Go there! Oh, and the brunch is great too!

Maverick garnered good reviews on TA so we went. Yes their speciality is simple fried chicken but it's blooming good, succulent and tasty, the veg adding a bit of spice, Colonel Sanders eat your heart out. The starters and other entree we had were superb, with a great mix of flavours and taste, the beef shortrib was magnificent, as was the... More

With so many great restaurants to choose from, Maverick often gets overlooked relative to some restaurants that build a lot of hype. I had a meal here recently with friends and we found each and every dish excellent with some real standouts. The cured duck breast was divine and unusual with its bright notes of bergamot. The octopus salad also... More

We really enjoyed this restaurant, especially the unique ingredients in our meal. I don't usually write our food choices in reviews, but it speaks to the originality of this kitchen; Gruyere Gougeres, Hay Smoked Beet Soup & Baby Beet Salad (truffled goat cheese, jicama, fennel, tarragon, beet meringue), Roasted Quail (yellowfoot mushrooms, turnips cooked in buttermilk whey, Douglas fir (infused... This little spot in the thick of the Mission has amazing food, delightful staff and great atmosphere. I met friends there for a weekend brunch. We were delighted with our food - I had the fried chicken sandwich and honestly, don't remember what everyone else ate (except for bites of MY food). My plate had a height of the season... More

We walked past this restaurant every day from where we were staying to the BART station that got us into town – and every day, we would say to ourselves: “we must eat there before we leave”. It actually wasn’t until the night before we left that we actually went! Maverick is a really small and intimate restaurant that prides... More

We had a great meal at Maverick. We had a party of 6, and when we arrived our table wasn't ready so they promised us a free bottle of wine. We went and had a drink elsewhere and then returned -- they were very apologetic and our free bottle of wine ($40 price cap) arrived and we were very happy.... More

LOVE THIS PLACE!! We've been here a few times now and absolutely enjoy it every time. The food is great, the service is great, and the Milk and Cookies are TO DIE FOR!!! This past visit, I enjoyed the Lobster Bread Pudding (delish!) and my husband enjoyed the Fried Chicken. So good! If we didn't live an hour away, we... More

Just great! The food was amazing with very inventive recipes and savory dishes, the service very good. The selection of wine was broad and well done with excellent californian wines ( try pinot noir cru 2009) It is located in mission, a good spot to have a drink before or after and next to a bart station. and the prices... Staying in Mission District

Neighborhood Profile
Mission District
From burritos to bicyclists, the Mission is the foundation for all things hip in the city. Cultural attractions, an independent arts community, sumptuous street murals and a high density of bars and cafes make this neighborhood a magnet for young people. While terrific inexpensive food is abundant, its top-of-the-line restaurants now compete with the city’s best for fashionable diners. Indulge as the locals do by heading to Mission Dolores Park, buy some ice cream, and savor one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the country.
