Enjoyable Stay on Nob Hill

Enjoyed our stay at the iconic Inter-Continental Mark Hopkins. The Nob Hill location worked well for us. Easy to visit nearby Grace Cathedral (don't miss it) and near the cable car lines. Also, no problem walking downhill. Uphill is another thing, however. Uber come in handy when it is time to... read more

This a large hotel sitting atop Nob Hill. On entering our hotel room it was immediately apparent that there were multiple layers of paint on the walls evidenced by peeling. If you want to go to the "Top of The Mark," be prepared to pay a cover charge, endure exceedingly loud "music," and be perpetually ignored by snotty servers. (If... More

I stayed at this hotel earlier this month and was very disappointed. My room smelled like a wet dog and the floor was actually wet. There was also a noise outside of my window that went off every 30 minutes or so that kept me up at night. It was definitely not worth the price, needs updating!

Family of 4 with two small children, we ordered two doubles, they put us in a single king, no clothes drawers, with an awful springy rollaway overlooking the lobby roof and its equipment. At 3a that equipment started making awful screeching sounds every 60 seconds, like a giant fan with rusty bearings. We got little sleep listening to maintenance work... More

Visited Top of the Mark but it was terrible. We were staying at a sister hotel and it was recommended we go for the view and to try some Martinis. The view was lacking, and the Martinis were poured without much class. All the glasses were sticky from when the bartender would pour the drinks... At $15+ a drink, I... More

Stayed here for the ALA Conference in SF June 2015. Very grand historical hotel but way overpriced. Coffee mugs were not replaced, we had to call each night for fresh mugs and keurig cups. For the price we paid, there was no fridge in the room and no pool in the hotel...very disappointing. Located at the top of Nob Hill,... More

Incredible customer service & beautiful room. The views from this hotel can't be beat! We will be staying here from now on when we're in San Francisco.

We had three nights at this hotel and had an extremely comfortable bed with luxurious bed linen and pillows and there were good complimentary coffee making facilities Our first room had a tiny and very badly planned bathroom - nowhere to put toiletries, with a shower in the bath, a shower curtain rather than a glass panel, and small bath... I stayed here for three days for a conference. This hotel is nice and from a different age. It has character. Not to be confused with the glass towers down the hill it has personality. The staff were always welcoming and very professional. The room was very clean. Especially the bathroom. Good size room. The neighborhood is safe and quiet.... More

this old tired hotel across street from Fairmont, the grand dame of nob hill, is showing its age. Often discounted on web travel sights, it attracts mostly foreign tourists looking for cheaper room. Beware of advertising on web sites...our room said two queen beds when they are in fact two smaller double beds. The manager says none of the rooms... More

Staying in Nob Hill

Neighborhood Profile
Nob Hill
Swanky and stylish, Nob Hill sits in the heart of the city and is home to amazing architecture and views. The hike to the top can be a challenging workout for those who forego a cable car ride, but they will be rewarded with some of the city’s most beautiful architecture adorning its peak. Originally populated with mansions after the Gold Rush, most if not all were devastated in the 1906 earthquake and fire that followed. Luckily all is not lost; storied hotels and Grace Cathedral surround Huntington Park. Having a drink or dinner while taking in the sunset and views at the "top of the Mark" is tough to beat.
