I chanced upon this gem of a restaurant and booked in for our last night in San Fransisco. We were all pleased with the outcome. Cosy, it is small, but producing Devine food. They keep the menu small but special. My only regret is not finding it sooner.

Nice location - very handy - and lively food. Small and friendly with bistro atmosphere. Nice selection on the menu and delicious bread!

We were here over the New Year's holiday. Our table was in the back room, which had a dank musty odor. Our server seemed to forget about us and was not very familiar with the menu. Our food was "just OK". We seem to have had an unfortunate experience, judging from the recommendations on this site.

Travelling alone on business often means slightly depressing meals for one in hotel bars. Fortunately I was lucky to find the Nob Hill Grille, which was wonderful. After being greeted on arrival I took a seat at the counter for what proved to be a really great night. The main server was wonderful, chatty but not pushy and she really... More

Great breakfast spot. Although we had to wait in the cold and rain for about 30 minutes for our table, it was well worth it. As soon as our name was called, we were welcomed inside with a warm greeting and an apology for the wait. The staff are attentive and very friendly. The food is delicious and the mimosas... More

What a great spot ! The breakfasts are incredible. I had the corned beef and it was seriously the best breakfast I've had in a long long time. Totally original and seriously tasty. Gets busy so expects a small line.

We decided to try this place because it was within walking distance of our hotel. We were pleasantly surprised. It is small, but the food is excellent and will not empty your wallet. I had braised short ribs that rivaled some I've had at top notch restaurants in New York. The hostess/waitress was friendly and attentive. Reservations are a must.

I am delighted that we made the decision to dine at Nob Hill Grille -- We truly enjoyed my dining experience. The food was delicious and the service was warm. We ordered truffle fries, mushroom risotto and the old macdonald burger. The food was soul food; it hit the spot. The service was smooth and caring. We will return and... More

We were visiting the city for the first time. We had spent the early afternoonon on a food tour and then walked all over Fishermans wharf. We were tired and a little hungry by 8:00. We didn't want to go far from the apartment we were renting, so we walked over to Nob Hill Grill. There are 2 levels, we... More

Great "off the path" find. It was a little busy and short staffed but they make the best of it and are still very friendly. My friends had the burgers. They were ok. I had a linguine worth a butternut squash special for the night. Amazing! Topped off with a great glass of wine.

Staying in Nob Hill

Neighborhood Profile
Nob Hill
Swanky and stylish, Nob Hill sits in the heart of the city and is home to amazing architecture and views. The hike to the top can be a challenging workout for those who forego a cable car ride, but they will be rewarded with some of the city’s most beautiful architecture adorning its peak. Originally populated with mansions after the Gold Rush, most if not all were devastated in the 1906 earthquake and fire that followed. Luckily all is not lost; storied hotels and Grace Cathedral surround Huntington Park. Having a drink or dinner while taking in the sunset and views at the "top of the Mark" is tough to beat.
