Authentic Italian

We were going to go to Sotto Mare (next door), but the wait was over an hour so we ended up next door. The table was reserved for an hour later, but they took us. The fried zucchini appetizer was excellent as was the buratta. The pasta was all hand made and fresh. A great meal in a pleasant... read more

Well, the service is good but I have a strong feeling my dish was probably frozen and microwaved. The pasta was dry and very chewy. The other dish with pesto sauce was only with pasta and no veggies. I don't think this restaurant will see me back again. It us anything but Italian.

I arrived at this restaurant after a long trip around 9:45pm for dinner. I was alone. The waiter looked at me and said that it was too late and the kitchen closes at 10pm. There was not a single word of apologies neither any attempt to understand if they could accommodate me somehow. In fact, I went there with the... More

Very authentic Italian experience. We found service to be attentive and most honest: "I would not get lamb tonight but recommend veal." It was delicious. Share starters; they are filling. Saw a whole trout at next table displayed on a cradle of skewers in half oranges; very creative. The waiter expertly released the flesh from bones. Wish I could post... More

We are staying in san fran for a few nights and needed a place for dinner with friends, i looked at many restaurants however came across this little gem! It was the best authentic Italian meal i have had, all made freshly on site. Everyone had a great meal along with receiving exceptional service. Highly recommend!

After celebrating NYE in SF we were looking for a great restaurant in North Beach on Jan 1. We arrived at Vicoletto for our 7pm reservation and the only table available was near the kitchen. But the proprietor was happy to move us up front after only a short wait. The service was outstanding even thought the restaurant was crazy.... More

There were 4 adults and 2 children when we ate dinner at this restaurant. We had reservations and while we were seated right away, the waiter finally stopped at our table 35 minutes after seated. We ordered drinks and 3 appetizers. The drinks came 20 minutes later. We ordered our dinners and another 25 minutes later we received our dinners... More

I went here with two others on business for dinner. It was very pleasant, excellent wine list. Excellent pasta and seafood. I highly recommend the Butter fish. Restaurant is small and quiet so you can hear our conversation. I recommend it.

For some reason there was only one waiter here on a Sunday evening and the place was pretty busy. He was nice and he was doing his best, but one guy can't handle the whole place. That being said, they must have had plenty folks in the kitchen, because the food was delicious. The crowd was made up of a... More

We liked everything we tasted. Was good, authentic Italian food. Delicious homemade pasta. Good service. The tables were close together but otherwise it was a simple but cute decor. Would go back.

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
