Good Coffee Good Pastries

If you love pastries.. this is the place to go. You want to go in the morning because they do run out of a lot by the end of the night. They are known for the biscotti's.

Over the past twenty or so years, I've visited Stella each time I was in San Francisco...that's at least twenty times. If you're lucky enough to snag one of the tiny outdoor tables, it's a great people-watching spot. Inside, the tile floors, the wrought iron tables and chairs are evocative of times gone by. Too bad the pastries, by and... More

We weren't sure where to go for coffee and desert. While walking around the Italian area of town, a local suggested that we head straight to Stella. He assured us it was a local favorite. Boy was he right!!!! All of the pastries were homemade and delightful! We ordered extra to take home with us and ended up eating it... More

Not knowing which would be better, I got some things from this bakery and some from the bakery a block away and this one was better. Their breakfast pastries were flaky and delicious. Staff was very helpful in answering my questions and giving recommendations. You won't be sorry if you stop here.

Good coffee, but the real star here is the vast array of delicious cakes, biscotti, tarts and pastries. Go on, treat yourself.

Probably the best brownie I've ever had, dense, fudgey, with lots of fresh pecans inside and an incredible frosting on top. If you are in North Beach, stop in!

Just went there for a tiramisu and did not disappointed. Nice atmosphere and friendly service. The place was recommended by the personnel from another Italian store.

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
