My husband and I stumbled into Stella Pastry and Cafe while looking for a dessert that wasn't icecream as it was so cold and windy outside. There is such a great selection of biscuits, cakes, slices etc. We had the blueberry cheesecake and s chocolate brownie... Rich and yummy! Also very reasonably priced, only $7.65 for both of those and... More

We were looking for a good ol' Italian bakery in north beach that would remind me of my NYC Italian upbringing and this was pretty good. The selection isn't huge and there aren't bathrooms, but the cookies are good. We got a bag of a 6 small cookies (7$) the first night and a cannoli and white and black cake... More

They have the best tiramisu I have ever had so I always order when we stop no mater if it is morning, noon, or night. Their deserts and pastries should be tried even if doing so might spoil your dinner. They have great espresso and lattes too!

We dropped in this place because we were looking for a quick breakfast. I had a couple of really well made coffees and we bought a couple of pastries each. We were both only able to eat 1, share a giant florentine, then take the other 2 pastries away for later.

They make excellent coffee's and outstanding cookies and pastries and cakes! Had a capucchino and a huge slice of strawberry shortcake, omg, real whipped cream!! Not a dieter's delight, however if you are in the mood to splurge, go there!!

This is where I stop every time I'm in San Francisco to get my cannoli fix. All of the other pastries, cookies, and cakes look delicious, but I can't bring myself to get anything other than a cannoli.

I tried the almond lace cookies and had to go back for more. They were delicious! They are thin and crisp and gluten-free! We actually ordered some to take out along with some chocolate dipped biscotti and a cannoli and everyone enjoyed their desserts. Their cakes looked amazing although we did not try them and they had many different types... More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
