Great food, comfortable atmosphere

We started our visit to the Castro with a stop at Harvey's per recommendation by our Lyft driver. The staff was friendly, service was good, and the food was great! I especially loved the broccoli cheddar soup.

Whenever I'm in San Francisco I always eat breakfast here. Located in the heart of Castro, Harvey's is bright and modern. Staff are polite and efficient if not warm and friendly. I enjoy Eggs Benedict here and they are always cooked to perfection with breakfast potatoes. Portions are generous. Prices may not be the lowest in the country, but this... More

A great option to dine after visiting The Castro. The atmosphere was quite laid back and the waiters were quite nice. The bathroom was somewhat different, you need to ask for tokens in order to use the facilities.

This place is the center of the center of the Castro. Drinks are liberally poured, food is bar food, but really quite tasty. Service is almost always warm, fun, and ever-present.

I recently visited SFO for the first time. I went to Castro neighborhood to watch a classic film at the historic movie palace The Castro Theatre. We had about an hour before movie time, so we went to Harvey's for happy hour. Our brief 20 minutes at Harvey's was NOT happy. We were there on Wednesday, March 11 at about... More

My partner and I visited here on Tuesday evening. We were planning on making a night of it but the jet lag kicked in so it was quite a short evening. We'd been here before and loved the food so decided to go back to give it another go. It didn't disappoint. My partner had the fish & chips and... More

This place is simply over rated. The food, while okay, is limited in selection. Prices are mid-range but reasonable. The service is typically slow and avoid this place on weekends as it's always crowded and impossible to get a table. It's a bit on the pretentious side but not too much so. I'm convinced this place is as full as... More

Great place to grab a bite at the bar, a quick bite or to experience some raw up and coming talent. Located in the heart of the Castro, this establishment hosts various night featuring comedians, musicians and anything else you can imagine. Food is simple bar food. Staff are willing to let you make modifications to your menu to suit... More

My girlfriend and I stopped here for dinner with the intention of staying for Trivia....but it was the wrong night! Nevertheless, we chose to stay for a couple of drinks and some nibblies, especially because our waiter, Caleb, was so lovely. We had cocktails, which were not stingy with the alcohol and quite tasty, and we ate the starter of... More

Staying in The Castro

Neighborhood Profile
The Castro
A flourishing commercial area that acts as San Francisco's LGBT community center and cultural heart, the Castro is a neighborhood welcome to everyone. As one of the first predominantly LGBT neighborhoods in the United States and currently its largest, it remains one of the epicenters of activism in the nation. Grand theaters and glitzy shops now compete with bars and fashionable eateries for attention, drawing visitors from around the world to the bright rainbow flag acting as its beacon.
