An institution, great food and friendly staff. Stop by the gift shop too! Calamari was exceptional. They invented Irish coffee.

Located close to Fishermans Wharf. Very vibrant restaurant. Seating is family style so you get meet other tourists as you eat. Food and service were both very good. Would recommend the Irish Coffee.

Tourists go for the irish coffee and the view of the wharf, but locals go for the good food and service. You can sit at the bar at the back of restaurant if the tables are full. Best bet is to go early. Great breakfast staples including corned beef hash. Service is friendly and the food comes out fast.

Our friends who had spent the early years of their marriage in the city many years ago were reminiscing about romantic low cost bread and wine al fresco dinners followed by "dessert" of Irish Coffee at the place of its origin and took us to this landmark for Irish Coffee. I, being the designated driver, settled for a sip of... More

The Buena Vista is a pub that has been around since 1886...during prohibition it was an ice cream parlor. In 1952 the owner decided he was going to serve authentic Irish Coffee, thus he made several trips to Ireland to perfect his process. I have to admit, it is very good, although a bit on the pricey side for what... More

If you want to spend WAY too much on an overrated Irish Coffee... by all means. Go to the Buena Vista. It's a perfect trap for visitors who don't know any better. Yes, perhaps the San Francisco version of the hot, sweet, whiskey delight was invented here. But, it is so mass produced and over-priced, if you really are in... More

The Buena Vista has great ambience and is world renowned for its Irish Coffees. Make sure you watch the Irish Coffees being made as it is a real art and great entertainment. Enjoyed dining here and a special location. We had time for three Irish Coffees each, which are good value at $ 9 each.

What a great way to meet people at the sharing tables in the Buena Vista cafe. So San Francisco!Atmosphere welcoming and food good. My wife finished with an Irish coffee while I stuck to the Scotch and had a MacAllan.

My friends and I stopped in for some Irish Coffee as we were told by our tour guide that Irish Coffee was invented there. Not sure if that is completely true but the Irish coffee was very good. Kind of on the pricy side, but for a quick pick me up, I would recommend stopping in.

Near of the Ghirardelli plaza, this corner is the best place to taste a real Irish coffee. Great attention, specially in the bar. If you choice to seat on a table, you can enjoy the SF cable car first station.
