Worth a look

We popped in for a quick breakfast and would recommend it to others for the experience. We needed to be sharp elbowed to grab seats (tables are shared and first-come-first-served, but turnover is quick). Service was brisk but friendly and straightforward. This place was strange in that they sit you with other people at larger tables. The Irish coffee was amazing and something you must try. We stayed for lunch which was a mistake since their food was mediocre at best.

We tried the Irish coffees, which is what they are famous for, and we weren't disappointed. Everyone ordered a different lunch item, and they were all good. If you want to experience the fun of the bar, take a seat at the bar.

This was our last stop before we had to leave the great city of San Francisco. I had intended to stop here some time during the trip, but had yet to make it there when I saw its sign as we were approaching the bus stop to return to our hotel to pick up our bags and make our way... More

Nothing like sitting in this old bar watching the two distinguished looking bartenders make multitudes of their famous Irish Coffee....other than drinking it of course. They even entertain with magic tricks. Irish coffee was pretty good on a chilly afternoon. Apparently you are paying for the experience - since $9 each seemed a bit high for this wee little drink.... We had lunch here on out first afternoon in San Francisco. Quick service, we had a two BLT's, cheese omelette salad and sauté potatoes, chicken strips. Very nice, freshly cooked. We would come again.

Took out of town guests here to sample the Irish coffee (coffee with Irish whiskey and sugar). The places is great. The coffee is hot AND strong. It's great on a cold day to warm you up. The inside is old fashioned and the Buena Vista serves more Irish Whiskey that ANYWHERE else in the WORLD. You gotta go for... More

Very good place to stop for lunch. The crab cakes Benedict are suburb! It is in a really good location by Ghiradelli chocolate factory and near fisherman's wharf. A must stop!

We dined here one morning based on tips from a few friends (and strangers we met the night before). At first, we sat at the bar as we weren't aware of the group seating style. The bartender, who was a little surly, told us no food at the bar so we moved to a table with another couple. Once we... More

Stop in Sit at Bar Order an Irish Coffee....sip and enjoy. The food....look lackluster....Many unhappy faces across the place. THE BATHROOMS were filthy....which is such a terrible reflection on how the kitchen may be....Anthony Bourdain said it best.....you CAN judge a restaurant by the condition of their bathrooms....GROSS. I am glad we didn't eat here....
