Having lived in the city many years back.. I always tell people if you do one thing in this city is watch and learn at the Buena Vista. Travel tip: Sit at the 1st bar once inside the door. The last 3 seats are where they make the Irish coffee. (Look for the towel on the bar) ...It's an art... More

We went there twice in our two day trip to San Francisco. What a treat it was to sit at the counter...or at a table and visit with other patrons. Watching them make Irish coffees in a row of about 10 at a time...was also a great thrill. This place has such ambiance! The wait staff is fabulous and the... More

Stopped in one night after our Hop On Hop Off night tour of the city. Our guide, Mishka, recommended the Irish coffee here. Wonderful find! The Irish coffee was just what we needed after the bracing open air tour. Love the vibe... came back the next evening for a light dinner and we were all blown away! Great pastrami sandwich... More

They claim the were the first ones serving Irish Coffee in the U.S. and it might be true. Anyway they have become the place for the warm coffee drink, serving some 1500-2000 Irish Coffees a week! The bar has a great atmosphere and not only tourists, but also a lot of locals, find their way to the Buena Vista. You... More

We've been visiting this Cafe for over 40 years. Not only does it offer the best Irish Coffee we've ever had, but it's entertaining to watch 10+ of this special brew being put together all at once. The bartender has been there for over 5 decades and he has this down to an 'art'!!

Friendly atmosphere with outstanding Irish coffee. Not much on food, but a great view of the cable car turn around. A must stop on the visit, but will be a bit pricey.

The Irish coffee here is amazing and a must try. Couldn't get enough on this vacation! Beautiful views of the bay and tasty sourdough toast. Delightful breakfast.

I've returned many times over the years for an Irish coffee and have never been disappointed. The bar does get crowded which can make ordering difficult but well worth it to share a coffee with friends. Every cost (15+ years) table me back to my introduction to the Buena Vista where we left a dinner in Silicon Valley drive an... More

we adore the BV and visit multiple times when we're in the city. The irish coffee is the best you'll get anywhere, it's always packed with people and you share tables with folks you don't know, which is a great adventure! Most of the staff don't look very happy, but who can blame them; they run non-stop all the time.... More
