Fairly manic during the day at the cafe on the ground level. If you feel like a nice glass of wine and some tasty food for dinner/ late drink, go upstairs, highly recommended. Prices very good, staff friendly and great choices.

This restaurant is upstairs. Don't let the hustle and bustle of downstairs swear you off of this great restaurant. We were seated very quickly our waitress was able to explain The menu and the items on it completely. Our appetizers were delicious, the main meal fabulous and both of my grandchildren left with sourdough turtles. The clams in the clam... More

Neat place to grab a quick bowl of chowder. Bread was great. A pigeon even joined us for our snack!!! Touristy, but fun.

This place is well known for its Clam Chowder in a sourdough bowl. Well worth a visit and the food was good. Nice sense of being "in with the in crowd" here in as much as its such a well known place it felt kinda cool to be eating there. Be prepared for queues though.

This place is always busy at lunchtime so be prepared to wait to place your order and to fight for a table! It's a good place to stop at lunchtime and sit outside whilst soaking up the atmosphere of SF. It's situated in a busy touristy area and not cheap. What is in SF? Only ever eaten clam chowder in... This place has a great energy - probably come from having a lot of customers The food is outstanding, with the signature sourdough bread omnipresent in most (all?) dishes. The service was very fast. And while expensive, just consider it a treat for yourself and your family. Portion size is average, and menu is varied.

For those who are looking for hot soup and quick service look elsewhere. I ordered the chicken tacos and watched them sit by the registrar for 12 minutes getting cold next to my chili as I waited for wife's turkey sandwich to be done. By the time everything was finalized I had to clear off my own table while the... More

My husband and I visited the restaurant upstairs for lunch during our visit to San Francisco after watching the bread being made in the front window. We both had soups in bread bowls - I had clam chowder, my husband had crab and corn bisque. We liked the fact that I was able to order a petite version whilst my... More

We can highly recommend the crab mac & cheese. The BEST mac & cheese ever. The pasta is made fresh. The crispy skinned striped bass was tasty, but one thick piece would have been better than two thin pieces. The crab cake sandwich is good, but not the best ever - perhaps because I prefer Cheasapeake bay recipe. We had... More
