Pricey, but well worth it

We had the four course dinner, each course of which was outstanding. The ahi tartare, prepared tableside was the star of the evening.

A beautiful dining room but only average food presented very well. We had a difficult and unnecessary confrontation with our waitress who refused to accept that she had poured our wine into a used glass (a different wine) and proceeded to talk about us with her colleagues and point us out in full view through the many mirrors in the... If you want an exceptional dining experience, this place is it. $100 prix fixe 4-course menu did not disappoint and was well-paced (just short of 3 hrs). Portions were very attractively presented and appropriately sized. Wait staff very attentive while not intruding on table conversation. Outstanding wine list; our table of 4 sampled 3 different bottles over the course of... More

I went with a group so we had a preset menu with three choices each. For my starter I chose the lobster risotto. It was good quite tasty but not outstanding. Could have had more lobster. I did not finish it. My second course was the ribeye which was not tough but firm and I would call it course. Nevertheless... More

What has happened to a lunch at good restaurants? Do they need to be 'smoke and mirrors', fashionable, but without taste (in any of that word's meanings) ? Don't go. But if you end up there by accident, beware: The 'Zero Percent' cocktails are very expensive and small tumblers of juice. The starters: Bread is good. A small salad is... More

The tasting menu was superb. Every course we ordered was spot on. The service at all levels was welcoming, friendly and helpful. Best dining experience we've experienced in SF in the last year.

I ate at the bar, as on my own I decided not to opt for the expensive tasting menu in the restaurant. It was an excellent dining experience. The bar staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Eating at the bar had all of the experiences of dining at a high end restaurant with delicious amuse bouche, and pre-dessert. The duck... More

it's nice to have the actual experience meet expectations. too often I'm so excited to try a 5-star restaurant and am disappointed by the experience. MM certainly hits on all cylinders, food, presentation, service and atmosphere. it's SF so not really formal, but you'll feel more comfortable dressed up a little bit. we had the 4-course tasting menu and I... We arrived early for a 7:30 reservation. The restaurant was fairly void of customers. It was Wednesday evening in May 2015. The waiter was phony in his thoughts. The food was boring. The presentation was okay. The atmosphere was fine. The staff was

Our family of 3 opted for the $100 4 course menu. Overall it was very good and I think we would return. Appetizers: Our server recommended the tuna tartar and my son and I both tried it. My son loved it, the flavors were subtle. I thought it was just ok. Husband had the special Spanish blue fin for an... More

Staying in Financial District

Neighborhood Profile
Financial District
The Financial District lies just east of Chinatown but can seem a world apart given it’s San Francisco’s version of Wall Street. The rush of business people make up a hectic weekday and add to a frenetic pace of life, but visitors who spend a few hours walking the narrow streets will be rewarded with fine examples of historic and contemporary architecture, including the iconic Transamerica Pyramid. After business hours, bars and restaurants quickly fill up with happy hour revelers. Stocks aren’t the only kind of market being followed, the Ferry Building Marketplace on the Embarcadero is a gourmet food emporium and farmers market that will satisfy anyone working up an appetite.
