I had dinner at Michael Mina's last week with a little caution. The last time that I was there, the staff had mucked up a (confirmed) reservation for a group of 12, embarrassing me considerably as the host. However, those things happen. The welcome by the staff was very friendly and we were told... read more

5 stars. Unbelievable wine menu. Prefix menu deserves standing ovations. Wine by glass is pricy, but it is well worth it, in my opinion. Whoever finds this place expensive is probably right: it is a place for a special treat. I would personally try Michael Mina's restaurant at all other locations whenever I am there...

There a plethora of choices for good food in the Bay Area; and Michael Mina is a stand out for service. We were late on a dark and rainy Friday night; we were warmly greeted with sincerity, this echoed from the receptionist all the way through wait staff and wine manager. The 'trio" concept is unusual for a menu, every... More

We had a seven course meal with wine pairing. While some dishes were really amazing, the tuna sashimi for example, other were OK. My biggest disappointment was the Kobe beef. It was my first encounter with this meat and i found it why too fat and tasteless. Wine pairing was interesting as it gives the opportunity to taste the difference,... More

What a delightful evening! We opted for the 3-course prix fixe menu, and chose a trio option for each course. So many flavors in each course was an incredible sensory experience. The scallops course - each scallop was perfectly prepared with a variety of sauces and each was accompanied by a seviche scallop with a complementary flavor profile. For the... More

My wife and I ate at Michael Mina in early December and we thought the experience, overall, rated a Very Good. The food was excellent, the service was good. We felt that our actual server was mediocre, which lowered the overall experience. We had the caviar service to start, which was excellent. We decided to go with Signature Dishes, some... More

I was quite surprised by the ambiance of this top end restaurant, which was quite noisy and bland looking from an interior décor point of view - with plain grey walls. The food is excellent, with novel flavour combinations and great presentation. The service was excellent and very friendly. Overall the experience was good, but make sure you have saved... More

Came here to try out this place! The service was great! Michael Mina uses a trio style meaning that he would cook a main ingredient in the dish 3 different ways. I thought this was creative on his part. I felt like it was like one of those Food Channel competition shows where each contestant uses a main ingredient and... More

Staying in Financial District

Neighborhood Profile
Financial District
The Financial District lies just east of Chinatown but can seem a world apart given it’s San Francisco’s version of Wall Street. The rush of business people make up a hectic weekday and add to a frenetic pace of life, but visitors who spend a few hours walking the narrow streets will be rewarded with fine examples of historic and contemporary architecture, including the iconic Transamerica Pyramid. After business hours, bars and restaurants quickly fill up with happy hour revelers. Stocks aren’t the only kind of market being followed, the Ferry Building Marketplace on the Embarcadero is a gourmet food emporium and farmers market that will satisfy anyone working up an appetite.
