Great Surprise

Growing up on Mexican food at home, I'm always iffy on Mexican restaurants. This place had great cocktails and the food was good, modern with authentic flavors. The ceviche really spoke to me, it brought back childhood memories of my father's ceviche, a definite must. The octopus was also... read more

The best time to go to the bar is during the happy hour. Tacos are about 2$ and they are really good. They also have interesting drinks. The place is amazing, we haven't seen a place like that. I really recommend you!

First you encounter the sultry image of the beautiful woman on the building, then through the exquisite curved glass door you enter an eclectic and very interesting interior. The back bar is a wonderful assemblage of old cabinets and upside down tables where agave is king. The outdoor area is called the garage and feels like an urban spot in... More

The food was presented well, though my main course the fish was totally overpowered by the Mole. My partner's meat too seemed overwhelmed by other flavors. The Tequila flight was a nice way to start, the salad was amazing, the rest of the meal less so. Service was not wonderful, not bad but I think the large table near ours... More

We were headed down to the trendy NOPA area of the city and wanted to grab a great meal before a show at The Independent. My husband found a few places, but we ended up at La Urbana, and were not disappointed. We sat at the bar, which we tend to do, and enjoyed the tremendous service of Jenny, the... More

We dined during the World Series and were able to catch updates from the attached open bar area. We had our choice of several unique cocktails, and enjoyed a couple prior to ordering dinner. I had the pork carnitas while my sweetie had the short ribs. Both we tasty and satisfying. We ended the meal with a seasonal dessert and... More

We had the chance to try this place for lunch and were not disappointed. Its kind of quirky in design, but our food was good, cocktails novel and service was prompt. Great for a neighborhood restaurant.

I disagree with some of the negative reviews here, I had a fantastic experience at La Urbana this week. We started at the bar and had a well-made margarita and a few unique cocktails before dinner. Both the bartender and the server were attentive and friendly, just the right level of service. The server's recommendations were spot on - have... More

We asked a waistress at our hotel in SF whether she could recommend a mexican/latino style resturant with a difference for us (and avoid corn chips etc). She smashed it with the recommendation of La Urbana in her local area. Out of the centre of SF (short cab ride) we found a taste sensation. We let the waitress order everything... More

I understand the concept of a restaurant that intends to provide a unique Mexican quisine so I'll give LA Urbana 2 stars for that and the quality of the food. It's different and interesting. However this just doesn't even come close to making up for the unreasonably high prices, extremely small selection and very poor service. Our overall experience was... More
