Just like we were back in Italy

This is the closest you get to eating in Italy without the airfare and jet lag. The place is tiny. They show you to a small table of your choice, upstairs or down. The guy next to you is visiting from the old country. The owner tells you about the specials and gives you the menu and wine list; it... More

In SFO for a conference and was staying close by, it was so good I wil make it a point everytime I'm here regardless of where I stay in the city. Great atmosphere, great service, and exceptional food.

We were only in San Francisco for 24 hours, but had gotten a recommendation from a local bartender to go here for dinner. We loved this place! We have traveled to Italy many times and this was as authentic as it gets! It is a very small restaurant with that family owned feel to it. The owner spent time talking... More

One of our favorite pet-friendly restaurants in San Francisco. If you decide you don't feel like ordering from the menu, just tell Mario what kind of food you feel like having (fish, salad, pasta, steak, etc.) and he'll make a suggestion. During our last visit, it was a very cold day so I felt like having pasta. Mario asked "how... More

This place feels like a real Italian restaurant. It's near the Jackson Square neighborhood, which is very charming, but it is on a busy street. It's a small restaurant with 4-5 tables outside, another 4 or so tables on the main level, and then an upstairs level. We went straight for the pasta, which was definitely above average and it... Outstanding little restaurant. Probably the best part of the restaurant was working with the wait staff and the chef. We had a picky crew, everyone wanted something a bit different, even off the menu. The staff was sooooo accommodating to work with us. Almost, whatever we wanted they were willing to oblige. So if you want a very fancy, expensive... More

First time at this restaurant and I found it very poor. I ordered the pork tenderloin, which supposedly had fresh mozzarella but didn't find any, to be just average. As for service, it wasn't very good. The waiters would rather talk to one another instead of actually making sure that the customers were taken care of. Trying to get a... More

Small place, very friendly. Nice, authentic Italian food, worth every penny. We enjoyed our evening here; next time we'll definitely come again!

This was such a great restaurant. Small, unique, and traditional Italian. Food was superb and service was pleasant, personable, fast, and above many others. I would love to return and have more Italian seafood. Patio is great too if you can tolerate a little breeze.

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
