Good place to grab a micro brew or other house favorites and great bar food selections. Worth the visit for something relaxed and away from the tourist traps.

I visited this place just after arriving to SF and really liked the atmosphere. The staff is really friendly. Had a beer tester and liked them all, being the Valencia Wheat and the stout my favourites. The flatbread with spanish ingredients was awesome too, really tasty. I totally recommend this place!

It was our pleasure having you, Lucho! :) Glad you were a fan of the beer flight, and I do hope you'll give us another go should you make it back to SF sometime. Cheers, Ron, Owner More

We made reservations at Thirsty Bear for Valentine's. We were staying around the corner and wanted some brew and good eats. I guess I should've read into more that it was just a Tapas and Brew restaurant. The husband had burger, which other than paella it's only full size meal you get, rest of the things in menu are just... More

Well, seems like we were hit and miss on your visit with the food, and that's a bummer to see, but I'm thrilled you liked the beer so much! I'll forward on your feedback to the kitchen -- thanks for the honesty. Hope to see you back for empanadas and brews soon. Cheers, Ron, Owner More

The facade isn´t that big, but the place really opens up, once you get inside. Visited three times during this visit to SF. I love the beer and the food is also very nice. Good mix of tapas, burgers and so on. Something for everyone. If you´re attending a conference at the Moscone, this place is within easy reach (5... More

Smokey IPA with a nice zarzuela (cioppino) was great for a chilly San Francisco day. Light lunch with IPA just the ticket. Lunch at Thirsty Bear is easy--no wait, quick service. But watch the bar seats. Lots of fruit flies made for a competitive lunch.

Glad you enjoyed your lunch, Michael! Nice job pairing that IPA and the zarzuela -- sounds like a pretty awesome lunch. Sorry about the fruit flies! We did have an outbreak last week and have been battling, happy to say we now we've got them under control! Thanks for much for sharing here on TripAdvisor, and I hope you'll give... More

A great brew pub centrally located in the heart of San Francisco. The restaurant is large, so getting a table is usually not a problem. Start with a sampler of all their beers then get a glass of the one you like the best. A nice menu of bar type food, well prepared and presented ant a very reasonable price..

Exactly what I like to see, John -- thanks for dropping us a line! Sounds like you did it right with the sampler, and I hope that we've earned another trip down next time you're in SF. Travel safe! Cheers, Ron, Owner More

We had a conference at the nearby Marriott Marquis and somehow two off-site dinners were booked at the Thirsty Bear. I didn't mind at all because the beer was fantastic and the food was delicious. We had a fairly large group of 15-20 so they put us in an upstairs room which was more quiet. There are several different beers... More

My biggest pet peeve is when I walk into a restaurant and the hostess just looks at me and waits for me to speak first, which is exactly what happened here. Your job is to greet me, make me feel welcome, and ask what I need. Instead she just stood there until I asked for a table for 2. Then... More

Well this is a bummer, LinzLou11. You should expect much more from our staff, and I do hope you'll accept my apologies that we weren't on our A game when you visited. I will definitely be addressing this with the team -- thanks for your honesty. Another shot to show you what we're really all about would mean a ton,... More

we visited late afternoon on NYE and the place was quiet. We sat at the bar and struck up a nice conversation with the bartender. I tried a couple of different brews (the cask conditioned red ale and the ESB). Both beers were well cellared and highly enjoyable. The tapas menu had a number of great choices and we ordered... Thrilled you enjoyed everything, Lockmk! Thanks for hanging out with us on NYE -- I know our bartenders love some good convo when they have the time. Hopefully the rest of your SF adventure went well, and that I'll see you back in next time you're in the area. Cheers, Ron, Owner More

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
