Very good small, Italian restaurant

This spot came highly recommended and did not disappoint. It is a small (maybe 30 seats) Italian restaurant. The atmosphere and service were great. We had a party of six and left it largely up to our waiter to select the dishes and wine. Both excellent. We were the last table left at the end... read more

This attractive little restaurant is in the upscale Russian Hill neighborhood. The narrow room is nicely decorated, and tables are well spaced so that others' conversations aren't intrusive. The small menu is well chosen, and the wine list is impressive. Service is good, but impersonal. Alas, our meal didn't live up to expectations. My veal saltimbocca's veal medallions were chewy... Where to begin. This restaurant has such a beautiful and romantic charm to it. I had the pasta with fresh black truffles. Divine. But the real plus that puts this restaurant above all other that I visited in SF is the service. Oscar was amazing. Very attentive, so so generous with the flowing glasses of wine, friendly and insightful about... More

This is a wonderful restaurant - in a great neighborhood. Went there with a large party (8) and we felt like we were treated as kings. The staff were wonderful, attentive and helpful. They made suggestions on wine and food - all were spot on. The restaurant is small and attractive and the menu is very typical of many small... More

THE BEST food, atmosphere, staff. Yes, it's the whole Italiano package for LESS than breakfast at the Fairmont. We celebrated a couples 45th anniversary, a 21 yr old's birthday and our own existence, all in ONLY the most enjoyable 2 hours we have spent in CA over our stay in the region. Lorenzo and staff are true Italians with house... More

We went here as a recommendation from friends in Santa Cruz and it didn't disappoint. We didn't make a reservation but it's more than recommended, it's very cozy and intimate and the place was full all night. We sat in the back corner and melted into the evening. The staff is incredibly accommodating, and the food was delicious. The owner... More

The concierge at the Fairmont recommended this place to us as a locals Italian favourite. We walked down to find a really quaint little spot, and we're immediately welcomed and made feel right at home. Service was fantastic, food delicious, and wonderful little touches like a complimentary liqueur at the end of the meal and all the ladies were given... More

We were looking for a "special occasion" neighborhood Italian restaurant----- And Tom from the Fairmont concierge desk zeroed right into Allegro Romano. It was exactly what We were looking for----off the tourist path---small, intimate, and having the front window seats--very romantic. Staff was ready for us----friendly, cordial, and immediately plugged Us into the ambience. Great Italian wine menu--limited but with... More

Neighborhood Profile
Russian Hill
Russian Hill has evolved into a chic residential neighborhood with outstanding views from every corner. Combined with several great cafes, restaurants, antique shops and boutiques, it’s easy to see why any visitor would gladly leave their heart in San Francisco. Cars line up day after day to drive down Lombard Street, the “crookedest” street in the world, and make the slow creep downhill past charming period homes. Polk Street is the main drag in this neighborhood, where you will find trendy bars, cafes and shops populated with locals, but for one of the most charming rides in the city, grab a cable car heading up and down Hyde Street.
