Food is entirely average to be kind, starter (Parma ham with burata) was ok but relatively small. Main dish - tagliatelle with boar ragu was dreadful, minimal meat swimming in tomato sauce which tasted like coming straight out of the can... The place was recommended by a friend but turned out to be a disappointing eco experience

The four of us had a great meal in this small neighborhood restaurant on Russian Hill. One of the specialties here is truffles. We had a risotto appetizer with truffles which was excellent. I had gnocchi with a foie gras truffle sauce - very rich and flavorful. Others enjoyed their steak and veal scallopini. Wonderful ambience and service. Highly recommended.

Really liked Allegro Romano. Friendly service, great straight-forward Italian food. The location is wonderful - I love small restaurants in almost hidden locations. There is nothing else commercial around - just a great residential neighborhood with this wonderful corner Italian. Highly recommended.

"That was really a fun place last night!" my wife said the morning after we had dined at Allegro Romano. "Yeah, but the food was bad" I replied. "So what?" she said. "It was way more fun than most restaurants." And so it was. Allegro Romano is small and narrow, and was packed on a Wednesday evening, with a mixture... More

I should have listened to the prior poster as i just experianced exaxtly the same issue. I called the resturant to see if they had space. They said yes if you come in 15 mins. I asked if they had parking (no) so we decided to walk it....I told them that it would take us 15mins to arrive. The hills... More

Quaint little place with a great selection. I had the Filet with gorgonzola and it was phenomenal. My fiancé had lobster and scallop risotto again fantastic.

I've eaten at many Italian restaurants across the world including plenty in Italy! And this is by far the best! The staff are 2nd to none! Their attention to detail of each guest is unbelievable and their knowledge of the wine and food menu is fantastic! They made us feel so welcome and created an abeyance that is fun but... More

With a new décor Allegro Romano, on top of Russian Hill, has put on a new face. However, food, wine and service remains the "good old same". Love their piccata, pasta and tiramisu.

We arrived exactly 4 minutes late and stood at the door for 2-3 minutes before the host arrived. We were informed our reservations were cancelled. I completely understand that they are busy and a popular restaurant but this is ridiculous. We had just made the reservations 30 minutes before arriving and really thought we would make it there. They had... More

Staying in Russian Hill

Neighborhood Profile
Russian Hill
Russian Hill has evolved into a chic residential neighborhood with outstanding views from every corner. Combined with several great cafes, restaurants, antique shops and boutiques, it’s easy to see why any visitor would gladly leave their heart in San Francisco. Cars line up day after day to drive down Lombard Street, the “crookedest” street in the world, and make the slow creep downhill past charming period homes. Polk Street is the main drag in this neighborhood, where you will find trendy bars, cafes and shops populated with locals, but for one of the most charming rides in the city, grab a cable car heading up and down Hyde Street.
