My husband and I came to The Grind almost every day during our stay in SF. It was a quick walk down the street from our hotel (The Metro) and was a great place to start they day. Our favourite was the Granola, fruit and yoghurt bowl - a huge portion and absolutely delicious. I also liked the French toast... More

We were looking for a mixture of good food and atmosphere outside of the diners surrounding our downtown hotel. The Haight was our destination and we lucked out with The Grind. The food turned out to be stellar: fresh, hot, beautifully prepared and wholesome. The coffee was notable (coffee snob). It's not cheap food and it's good food. Good ingredients... More

Love stopping in here when visiting SF. I usually stay nearby, so it is a nice walk for food and/or their wonderful coffee. Perfect for breakfast, brunch or lunch! Homefries were perfect compliment to my scrambler. Omelettes are also awesome Did I mention the great coffee???

We really liked the pancakes and the eggs here. The coffee is good and the place is fun to sit in and people-watch. We would recommend it to anyone in the area.

This was just the thing after a fun night on the town. The scrambles here are delicious, the home fries made just right and the whole wheat toast was yummy. Good coffee too!

As others have said, it's a nice and spacious place with a fine variety of scrambles and omelettes for breakfast and sandwiches. There are even a few tables outside the shop to enjoy your coffee on a fine morning. I had their Sicilian omelet and it was OK. The only blemish is they shut down their WiFi on weekends. So... More

they crank out pretty good omlettes, sandwiches, burgers, coffee, desserts. Nothing will rock your world, but it's dependable and everything is fresh and fairly good.

My bagel was delicious but it took 20 minutes (with no real line)... And only then got made b/c my friend asked if it was ready. They clearly misplaced a ticket (when scrambles ordered after us were delivered to tables). My complaint was not that it took so long but that there was no excuse or 'sorry' given... Like it... This casual breakfast spot has something tasty for everybody. My daughter lived in lower Haight while going to school and it was a regular spot for breakfast while visiting. Our favorite was the big granola and yogurt bowl with fruit. It is huge and certainly was enough to feed several small children. We always saw families eating their weekend breakfast... More

Staying in Haight-Ashbury

Neighborhood Profile
Haight-Ashbury
The area surrounding the intersection of Haight and Ashbury streets, “The Haight” still exudes vibes of the 1960s counterculture as a haven for vintage clothes, music, pop posters and body piercing shops. While the Summer of Love ended decades ago, Haight-Ashbury has turned into a melting pot of hippies, hipsters, and professionals. Walking through its streets can still feel like stepping back in time. A must-see neighborhood for most music fans, it’s easy to see why these streets attracted the likes of the Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin. You’ll likely be content in The Haight day or night, just be sure to wear some flowers in your hair.
