Fun and Quick Bite in Japantown

I love catching a fast bite at Isobune in SF's Japantown Restaurant Mall. They seat you immediately and you can instantly grab nigiri and maguro sushi right out of the little river boats passing in front of you. Be quick tho! The boats pass by fast! Granted, the sushi is far from the best I've ever... read more

Sushi was ok, nothing special. The unagi was great and the toro / salmon belly was also very good. Service could be improved. We asked one of the younger chefs for toro and he didn't know what it was. He said to order through the waitress. Kinda defeats the purpose of this being a kaiten sushi restaurant. Other than that,... More

I was in the area and decided to go to Isobune after many years away. It was always fun (still is to some degree) to watch the boats go by and pick just what you want. It also makes for a fast lunch. Unfortunately the quality of the sushi is just OK. Some of the fresh fish options looked a... More

Our grandkids love this place and getting to pick the sushi off of the boats going by in front of you while seated at the counter. Pricing is based on the plate color and if you're not careful it is easy to quickly run up a substantial bill. The sushi is ok, but the selection is limited.

We haven't come to eat at Isobune for awhile. I was so disappointed to find out that they no longer offered sashimi dishes, only common sushi items on the Sushi Boats. They were really geared more for the "tourist" in mind now. However, this place still packed very fast during lunch and dinner hours.

The sushi is freshly made and if you don't see what you want you can ask the sushi chef. Dishes include ikura (salmon roe) , unagi or eel, tuna, tuna, tuna! Patrons don't tend to linger so if you have to wait it will go fast.

Isobune is probably geared more for the "tourist" in mind!! This place gets packed during lunch and dinner hours. It is located inside Japantown, and the Sushi Boat is a draw for those who have never experience sushi going around on top of a boat! Note: - if you want to avoid the crowds, come here around 3pm ish!! Pricing... More

I went back to San Fran for business and Isobune is a must stop for me. I usually have sushi in the east coast. There is something different (and better) about the west coast sushi and this place in particular. After Isobune, other sushi restaurants taste bland.. I love the carrousel experience!

We stopped by this place after a double-decker bus tour and we were sure happy that we did. My family of four loves sushi, and we had never really found a place that had good sushi and a unique experience like this one. Us kids (14 and 12 at the time) loved the floating boat conveyor belt idea, and the... More

This is my 14 year olds favorite place to eat in Japantown and I've eaten here a number of times. The boats are fun to watch go round and round. The type of fish and quality offered is typical of what you'd find at any grocery store sushi counter. I'd only recommend eating there for an early lunch. We usually... More
