Nice place

Nice place. Perfect atmosphere. I am giving 4 just for the place. The staff is not so friendly. 1 point for the rude lady who served me...

Neat little bar with a lot of pictures on the walls. The bartenders were pretty good and nice. The drink prices were average during happy hour.

Great bar- full of things to look at linked to its history as a gathering place for beatniks. Ideal for pre-drinks and has a great atmosphere. Dark and stormy cocktail and Kerouac cocktail went down well.

My wife and a friend wanted Martinis, and this place served them up a couple of good ones. The waitress was great, the atmosphere was remeniscent of a pub. All in all, it was a nice stumble upon.

A very dark, dive bar next to City Lights Books. Jack Kerouac hung out here and drank his brains out with his beatnik friends when he wasn't on the road. Had an absinthe which was properly prepared and was quite good. Wide spectrum of characters here, though fun and safe. A true piece of SF history.

Charming, great neighborhood bar. Lots to look at on the walls. Other than the rude waitress, I liked it. Not sure why it's called a cafe because it seems like just a bar to me.

This is a great old fashioned bar. The drinks are reasonably priced, the service friendly and it is just a cool spot to chill in for a couple of hours. The pace is slow so don't go there looking for excitement but it has a unique charm

I am traveller photographer... So, I obviously have my camera with me all the time. I was literally KICKED OUT of the bar. I got in there with a couple of friends, I decided to take one single picture inside of somebody drinking a coffee... The bar tender, and old guy, asked me why was I taking pictures. I told... More

A great little bar which seems to have stayed true to it's roots. We enjoyed a beer or two here, sat upstairs by the window looking out onto the streets below. It wasn't too crowded or full or tourists. Worth a visit.

If you're looking to grab a pint and some conversation, this is the bar. The bartenders were nice, and the locals unpretentious.

Staying in Chinatown

Neighborhood Profile
Chinatown
As the oldest in North America, San Francisco's Chinatown is an exotic experience. A unique neighborhood decorated with colorful shops, historic streetlights, hanging lanterns, and pagoda roofs awaits behind the stone-carved dragon gates. Feast on dim sum at the tea houses, or meet the locals who gather at historic Portsmouth Square to play chess or practice Tai Chi. Fish markets, produce stands, tourist shops, jewelry stores, fortune tellers, temples and restaurants come together to create a world unto itself in this historic neighborhood.
