A great spot for a drink

A great little bar which seems to have stayed true to it's roots. We enjoyed a beer or two here, sat upstairs by the window looking out onto the streets below. It wasn't too crowded or full or tourists. Worth a visit.

I am traveller photographer... So, I obviously have my camera with me all the time. I was literally KICKED OUT of the bar. I got in there with a couple of friends, I decided to take one single picture inside of somebody drinking a coffee... The bar tender, and old guy, asked me why was I taking pictures. I told... More

If you're looking to grab a pint and some conversation, this is the bar. The bartenders were nice, and the locals unpretentious.

Left the teens browsing at City Lights, and us grown ups ventured in for a Bloody Mary on New Year's Day. Great, eclectic vibe. Locals linger and tourists can relax while looking at all the funky art and saying on the walls. Go upstairs and you can grab a table with a view of passersby.

Great place for a relaxed drink and chat with friends. Good for an hour or so. We visited at early evening and found a table easily.

Whether you like Kerouac or not, Vesuvio is a great bar to visit if you like something a little different. I love places like this - loads of interesting nooks and crannies, interesting things to see and read on the walls, good beers and a decadent 'Beat Generation' history. Vesuvio and Specs across the road are now etched on my... More

A must do in San Francisco. Grab a drink or two ( nice pour so one may do) and head up the winding staircase to the second floor. Grab the corner table, sit back and sip n people watch. Very relaxing especially after a nice Italian meal you might eat in the neighborhood. Exit to the left and bam, your... More

Recommended by both staff and fellow travellers from our hostel. Quaint little place for a drink! Sat upstairs which was nice as you could look out the windows. Overall great neighbourhood pub feel!

I wanted to visit Vesuvio because of it's association with Kerouac and cassady and the rest of the Beats. I'm glad I made it. Vesuvio is a great bar full of interesting people. They have a great selection of excellent craft beers and the walls are filled with great posters and pictures. This was a life experience for me, one... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighborhood Profile
Chinatown
As the oldest in North America, San Francisco's Chinatown is an exotic experience. A unique neighborhood decorated with colorful shops, historic streetlights, hanging lanterns, and pagoda roofs awaits behind the stone-carved dragon gates. Feast on dim sum at the tea houses, or meet the locals who gather at historic Portsmouth Square to play chess or practice Tai Chi. Fish markets, produce stands, tourist shops, jewelry stores, fortune tellers, temples and restaurants come together to create a world unto itself in this historic neighborhood.
