Simple and Tasty

We were invited to dine at Taraval Okazu Ya.Parking is somewhat difficult as there are only off street parking. It's SF so meters are expected. It's not a hole in the wall restaurant but more of a family owned restaurant. We were waited upon promptly and the food came in a very timely manner. It... read more

We had originally planned to dine in at Kingdom Of Dumplings next door, which was however already closing, when we arrived, so we went to this place and did not regret it. The restaurant is really charming and slightly chaotic. The staff is beyond friendly and eager to ensure you feel welcome. Food is decent although not outstanding and very... More

We visited this restaurant with a local who has been eating here for years. He suggested the 49'er roll and it was honestly the best sushi I've ever eaten. Everything we tried was good, but the salmon, with the paper thin slices of lemon and lime, was simply awesome. If I lived close by I would eat here all the... More

From the edamame (dry) to the shrimp (flavorless) to the salmon roe (over-ripe), the food was at best mediocre. Perhaps an off night for the establishment? Still, the table faced the kitchen operations, which were none too tidy and certainly unappetizing. An unfortunate experience.

We stayed in Sunset District for the weekend and did not think we could have good sushi. Just by chance we found this place and it was really wonderful. It was very busy and the waiters were all very attentive making sure everyone was taken care of. Food was great and reasonable price. It is not a fancy place but... More

Excellent restaurant in the Sunset....been going here for years but have never gotten around to reviewing it. First of all, the sushi is outstanding (usually get tekka maki and unagi maki); very fresh and reasonably priced. The meals are also outstanding....they post the fresh fish daily on a board....always great. The meal comes with soup, salad, rice and ice cream;... More

The best Japanese food for a neighborhood restaurant. We have been going for years and now know the owner and several of the servers. It is nice to go in and the recognize you and know your order. The food is great, the sashimi is fresh and the fish is wonderful, great menu. They get very crowded and there is... More

It had been nearly 10 years since I last had the sea bass at Taraval Okazu Ya. A big line at a trendy place just a few doors away tempted me, but I held my resolve to return to see why Okazu Ya had such a high rank in my mind. I started ordering random sushis, rolls, and the octopus.... More

This restaurant has an extensive menu, the food is fresh and tasty and is inexpensive. Benjamin looks after his customers and makes the sushi to order. The Restaurant is very popular so you will need to book if you are dining at night. (+1 (415) 759 6850). Apart from the extensive range of sushi, the tempura prawns are excellent as... More
