OK - when you go out to an Asian restaurant you expect fast service in and out...but come on... about 90 minutes for Vietnamese food. This is actual time sitting at a table and not waiting to be seated. If I could, I would give 0 stars Here is the rough the timeline: Seated immediately - got the menu 15... More

This place deserves a 5 star review. I have been coming here for over a decade and every time it is a treat. We come here for a quite dinner knowing that we will not be rushed and that the service will be very polite. This is not a touristy place and you will rarely meet tourists here.

Last night we went to LaVie for the first time. In our opinion, the food was nothing special and overpriced. We ordered the Vietnamese crepe as an appetizer, which was very good and freshly made, when it finally arrived. Our entrees were 2 chef's specials, a dish with sea bass and sugar snap peas, and a dish of spicy mango... More

A friend took us here long ago knowing that we really like Vietnamese food. We were not disappointed. It's a great find and whenever we visit, there's never a wait. The service is friendly and restaurant well-decorated.

A friend recommended this place and we are so glad she did. Each item we ordered was tasty and great. The noodles were excellent too. So fun to find a restaurant that offers an interesting and diverse menu. Service was efficient and friendly.

Must have the crab, from the presentation to the taste was the best we have had. Great spot to get the local experience in San Fran.

What a great meal--the special La Vie roast crab, the stuffing (won't tell you the recipe), the garlic noodles, the vietnam beer--what a tremendous treat it is to eat here. It has been a favorite of ours for many years!

The roasted crab is the best crab I've ever eaten. Get it with the garlic noodles and you are set for a treat.

After a movie (at the venerable neighborhood Four Star theater) we walked down the block to highly-rated PPQ Dungeness Island, but even from a distance we knew we were in trouble--line spilling out on the sidewalk--and were told a minimum 40 minute wait for a table for 3. So instead we walked a couple more blocks to La Vie. Only... More

Our family has been to this restaurant several times, and I've tried various dishes - they're all excellent. But the best has to be the La Vie Roast Crab - San Francisco dungeness crab pan fried in a soy / garlic sauce. Don't know all the spices and ingredients, but it's heavenly! If you've got the time, and don't mind... More
