Delicious Persian from an old school neighborhood restaurant

I've been coming to Maykadeh for years since they first opened in the early 80s. Still consistently delicious over time. Personal favorites are the Chelo Kebab Koobideh (ground CAB and lamb) and the Barg (fliet mignon). With the combination of aromatics and basmati rice, the food teases the... read more

I've been coming to Maykadeh for years since they first opened in the early 80s. Still consistently delicious over time. Personal favorites are the Chelo Kebab Koobideh (ground CAB and lamb) and the Barg (fliet mignon). With the combination of aromatics and basmati rice, the food teases the taste buds differently from normal Western-style cuisine. Parking is difficult but valet... More

We had a fantastic lunch here today. While not experts on Persian cooking we found the food delicious. The service was outstanding as well. Very professional and attentive. The restaurant is quite lovely with large windows overlooking Green Street. We felt the prices were very fair given the quality and portion size as well as the upscale atmosphere. The manager... I really liked the food. The chicken chelo kebab was tender and tasty. The service was good. Though to find a parking outsode was a nightmare.

It's been a while since we tried Persian food so I decided to try this restaurant. I had Gorma Sabzi which is a meat veggie stew. The taste was really good I would say 4 out of five. Service wise, the waitress was a bit slow in taking our order and surprisingly refused the split the bill into 6. She... More

The half star off is for not having lavash bread, and the service, we sat for 10 minutes before we were able to get someone's attention, who spoke to someone, who spoke to someone else, who took some time (while not visibly doing anything) to come and ask about drinks, etc. I want to add that service was fine he... Love this authentic Persian restaurant. The wait staff are very friendly and enjoy explaining the many food options including ingrediants, preparation process, and spice variations. The food is excellent from the humus, yogurt, bread, Shirazi salad, and the many varieties of kebabs. We greatly enjoyed the meal and will be returning in the future.

Some of our friends had invited us to this nice restaurant in San Francisco for lunch, and even though the restaurant did not have a dedicated lunch menu, it was possible to find a very good meal at a fair price. The food was well prepared and was served with a smile. There was a nice atmosphere, though the music... More

I've been advised by hotel tourist desk to try this restaurant, I went there twice. The service is excellent, they are very kind, informative and helpful. I had Kabab for one night and Baghali polo for another night, the meat for baghali polo wasn't as much as I can have in London's restaurant but was enough. BB, the waitresses was... More

This simple store-front restaurant offers absolutely outstanding, authentic Persian Cuisine. I doubt that you would find better anywhere on the planet!

Came for lunch on a sunday. First ones there at noon. Seated promptly. Then had to wait 15 minutes before being acknowledge by waitress despite standing up and waving twice. Food very good kabobs high quality, koubideh and barg. The kashkeh bademjan (eggplant) very good as well. The yogurt drink, dough needed some more club soda or fizz. What brought... More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
