We were a party of 3 people and ordered food family style. We started with a fabulous bottle of Montepulciano wine. Our starters were Burrata and Zucchine Tartufate followed by the house made ravioli and fresh fish of the day. After a long day of travel, it was nice to be in a small and authentic Italian restaurant. The food... More

How can you go wrong with daily fresh made pasta and bread. Menu sticks with the traditional favorited and doesn't leave any absent. It is hard to decide because of the large menu. The daily specials are a plus. My favorite appetizer is the eggplant, might be the best prepared I have ever tried. Open late on the weekends, but... More

This was a recommendation from our concierge and I am so glad we went! The food was amazing -- tasted like we were back in Italy. Must get the Veal Milanese. It is on the bone, pounded thin, and perfectly prepared. Husband had the catch of the day, which was snapper. It was topped with a tomato based sauce that... More

We visited Ristorante Ideale on the recommendation of the hotel concierge and weren't disappointed. From the moment we walked in the door, the service was impeccable and we were made to feel like guests. Our entire party enjoyed a pasta dishes and there wasn't a bite of food left on any of the plates on the table when we finished.... More

We came to this restaurant on the recommendation of the hotel concierge and we weren't disappointed. It's a smallish place and therefore a bit loud since it was pretty full. A nice menu and delicious Italian food. Friendly staff!

We were headed to another place but the uber driver said this was a better place. Really quaint and really authentic amazing food. My friend spoke Italian the entire time to the staff and it was so much fun. We dined very late but never felt rushed although we were one of the last tables there. Totally a "little Italy"... More

Real Roman dishes prepared as if you were there with perfect wine pairings and friendly staff. Reasonably priced but always busy, the food is worth the crowd. Pasta dishes stand out with tortellini and bucatini amatriciana Anyone who lived in Italy and those who want to must put this one on your bucket list Buon appetito!

We ordered the calamari appy and it was tough and had a strong fishy taste. We ordered 3 different pasta entrees and 2 out fo the three were tasteless. I would not recommend this restaurant.

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
