HIghly Recommmend

This traditional restaurant offers excellent classic Roman cuisine (not trendy, "foodie" San Francisco) , friendly and efficient service, a bustling ambience, and reasonable prices. It is my top recommendation for a sampling of what San Francisco's Italian North Beach neighborhood has to offer.

"Miserabile," (that's Italian) the waiter said as he passed behind me (audibly, pretentiously, in a foreign language that he was sure I couldn't understand) after he ran his dinner bluff and got called on it. And what was the bluff?: whatever you can get away with. In this case it was $28 bucks worth of saltimbocca (which wasn't saltimbocca) -... More

I chose this restaurant for my birthday dinner and I have to say it was a great choice! It was like being in a trattoria in Italy. The service was excellent but unintrusive, and the food delicious. I had the beef carpaccio and spaghetti with clams, both really good, and they kindly brought me a complimentary birthday dessert of profiteroles.... More

We have eaten here a number of times. Why go anywhere else for Italian food in the city? This is the real deal! Great Italian food and wines. Always very friendly and helpful service. For a starter you must try the zucchini tartufate! The gnocchi and the lasagna are wonderful and if you like seafood try the zuppa di peace.... More

We went with friends who chose this place-really really disappointing-the Zuppa de mare ( fish soup) was cold, the bread was the worst bread ever-not even worth dipping in cold soup-the prices high- best part of meal was Tiramisu- go there for that! I would have made my feelings known but it's SF- tourist towns don't need repeat customers-what a... More

This restaurant does not ever disappoint. The Caesar salad is absolutely amazing, the pasta dishes are incredible and the tiramisu is a must! The entire staff is lovely and it's best to have a reservation. Very modestly priced as well!

The Roman chef at Ideale delivers a menu that far surpasses your expectation... They are friendly to children with a plain buttered pasta that the adults steal from the kids. Local San Franciscans know this is a place not to miss...

Visiting with a friend in his neighborhood, we chose this spot out of many. My friend is a regular but hadn't been recently. Great wine, nice staff. Nice environment. I was able to get a light pasta dish which made me so happy - didn't have to eat anything heavy. We got to linger at our table. Well worth the... More
