The eggplant appetizer, white bean minestrone, margarita pizza, linguini with clans, bologna de pizza were all great. The bread served with dinner was slightly dry and the pasta had great flavor but was more than el dente. The service was prompt but the waitress did not listen at all to the order for the pizza.

This place gets very busy because of location and reasonable prices. Service is painfully slow, food is fair with mostly pizza and pasta on the menu.

Whist visiting from London and after a walk around the crowded and very tourist based Pier 39, it was lovely to head to the Italian quarter where we found this wonderful restaurant. The waitress was extremely attentive and the food (pulled pork dish ) was delicious. Seemed a popular venue for both tourists and locals, as got talking to a... More

Ok if you want some of the best gnocchi around, this is the place. They are not frozen but made onsite and served with a mushroom and Marsala sauce that is to do for. I ordered bread just to lick up every bit of the sauce it was that good. Salad was big enough to split for two people. Good... More

Tourist Trap!!! Overpriced, slow service, beware the menu. Avoid the signature Italian dishes, this place is better for midnight sandwiches and coffee. For authentic Italian food, try the osteria across the street.

I had the chorizo breakfast pizza for something different and interesting. It was pretty good. My girlfriend had one of the egg scrambles and it was OK, nothing special. The coffee was above average. Overall it was a cute, new place to try but we wouldn't go back if there were other options.

We ate outside on the sidewalk at this caffe in Little Italy. The staff put two small tables together to seat the 5 of us. The food, some sandwiches, pizza and pasta dishes, was adequate but not spectacular. The meat sauce was thick and very tasty. We recommend that if you dine there. Service was a bit slow, but we... Friendly service. Really tasty pasta dishes and plenty of choice for children to choose from. Great pizza. All a bit a cut above what you might expect. Heaters for outdoor dining.

We wanted an Italian so turned up on spec in Little Italy. This place seemed inviting and busy so we were lucky to get a table. The main problem for us was the waitress was having a bad day. The sprite we ordered for our son was soda water. We had it changed but the waitress was not happy we... More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
