italian food without pretenses

We ended up at Sodini's by accident after being turned away from Soto Mare. So glad we found this friendly and comfortable atmosphere to eat great Italian food. Good bread, good pasta and good wine. Everyone was friendly and accommodating. We will bee back next time we're in town.

My wife and I went back to San Francisco after having lived there 30 years ago and sought out our old haunts. To our pleasant surprise, the old "Green Valley Restaurant", now called by the name of the family that owns it, was still there-- and still just as good as it was! Fabuloso! We had a flight to catch,... More

The evening felt like our best meal in Florence - we were warmly greeted, bread and drinks were served immediately and the best service from Rachel!! Food was excellent, as was the experience!!!

Sodini's is located in Little Italy on a side street, but worth the extra steps to get there. The menu says its been around over 100 years, and it feels authentic but not at all tired. The food is very well prepared, the staff friendly, and the seating quite comfortable. A number of the restaurants in the area had waits... More

My husband and I are from out of town and stumbled upon this gem through a few locals! This place was 100% delicious! I had gnocchi and my husband had linguini and meatballs! We both loved our food and the house salad and bread were yummy! Wish we had one close to us!! Service was great too!

If you want the real deal Italian restaurant, come to Sodini's. They serve all your favorites and do it well. The wait staff is friendly and patient while you peruse the menu - deciding what to order is the hardest part about eating here! I settled on the spinach and ricotta stuffed gnocchi - they were little pillows of yumminess!... More

Just possibly one of the finest Italian restaurants in North Beach. A truly hidden gem; reservations a must.

What you see is what you get at Sodini's. Great atmosphere, somewhat chaotic flow of staff and customers and great food. The clientele is a mix of locals from North Beach, the wider city and visitors. You can eat at the bar, in the rambling rooms or outside on the pavement (which we did - it has quite a slope... More

A surprise. As east coasters we were not expecting to find authentic italian and the best gnocci I've ever had. The waitress and owner were pleasant and friendly. The resteraunt was a throw back giving it a believable feel and fantasti experience.

I really like this place even if I make the occasional misstep when ordering. It's a fun, family run place with no bells and whistles and the food is always perfectly fine. Had to laugh at previous reviewer's comments about Mark - he's a flirt and a charmer, wouldn't take it so seriously. And he protected his loyal followers from... More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
