The Blue Mermaid had excellent chowder, service, and atmosphere! One of the best places we ate at while in San Francisco.

Lots of places searve crab and chowder, but this place has a list of chowders to choose from. I had a cup of corn and crab chowder. SOOOO good. It had huge moughfulls of real crabmeat and melted in my mouth. Man, I'm getting hungry. It was my 2nd favorite moment in San Francisco! I went around 3pm for a... More

Stopped in twice once for a quick sandwich and a cup of chowder which was OK. Had breakfast and ordered the crab cakes Benedict it was bland which is weird as that is one of my favorite things and the crab cakes were mostly bland bread. Would not go again as there is better in the area.

Located in part of “The Cannery” down near the waterfront this nicely setout restaurant provided both inside and exterior seating. As it was a nice warm day we chose the latter and were promptly served by our very pleasant waitress, Loreto, from Chile. As we had spent some time in Chile recently we were able to share our experiences. We... More

The food was good but I felt it could have been better. The oysters Rockefeller was not a classic recipe and the crunchy breaded topping was just not right. Otherwise, the food was fresh and served hot. The chowder was just ok. I expected more flavor and consistency for such a highly-rated soup. The staff kept calling us girls "you... More

Arrived past the peak hour for dinner as we just flew in. Manager was the only one who was working - greeting, seating, brought water, brought food ordered. Saw waiter only once. Had to flag him for our check. Did not ask if want anything besides water. Water was gone, but still no refills. Order was wrong. Requested the chowder... More

This restaurant is very well known for it's chowder and was recommended by the tour guides. The chowder did not disappoint. We tried at least 3 of the varieties of chowder available and they were all awesome!

My third crab for the day. Not the best but very good. Not cheap; fifty bucks is a lot of dough for a poor pensioner like me. Sat outside in the sun but the sun went faster than I could dissect Mr Crab. Got moved to the only heater that works. Staff were very friendly. The inside is real nice... More

We had a good breakfast here. Good portions and friendly service. Much better than many of the other 'cafe' outlets we tried locally.
