Classic american flavour with really kind waiters

This was the very first restaurant I sit in San Francisco after a long flight. The athmosphere of this place is amazing, truly the 50's. I tried their Famous Mel bourger - there is nothing outstanding, it just perfectly fits for a hungry man. Rick, the waitress is awesome, also the cashier guy is... read more

Service is shocking. Staff not friendly at all. Food is way overpriced. The worst ever hotdog we had costs $8.50. The sliders were ok. The coffee is instant - weak. Staff did not bother to refill. Completely ignored us. We had to try get someone's attention - and the place was not even busy. We only came here as we... More

We stayed at the Capri Motel which is within walking distance of Mel's so it was a convenient place to eat dinner a couple of time during a 4-night stay in San Fran. The atmosphere was great and the food was tasty and piping hot when it arrived at the table. Wait staff were okay and did their job. Not... More

I excitedly came to Mel's with my students during our 3 day trip to SF. We stayed in the neighborhood and over three days I brought about 40 diners into their restaurant. Food was fine. Service was good. It all fell apart when I went to pay for 6 breakfasts this am. I set down my tickets and counted out... More

Did not get greeted at the door. Service was a little slow and did not attend us that well. Place was no busy either. But food was good as and portions of a good size. Little pricey for a breakfast.

Love the look of diners like these and the music is really fun. Jukebox at your table. Though it was hard to hear music playing over the noise of people. It's not that the people were too loud. The music is too low. The main disappointment is the food isn't the greatest, especially not for the price. For our budget... More

I stopped in for breakfast and I thank God I did because the breakfast was delicious. Ordered the country plate with ham and the ham was a big piece not like in some of those other breakfast places. I loved the feel of a real diner from the 50's with music playing in the juke box.

The food was okay nothing to brag about. The waitress was very rude. Once she served us our food she didn't come back at all. I had to ask the bus boy to get me a refill and than she yelled at him when he told her that we needed her service

My husband and I went here for dinner or first night. The experience was fun, oldies music, great service and the food was very good as well with a lot to select from! :-)

Staying in Marina District

Neighborhood Profile
Marina District
Beautiful homes, beautiful people, and a beautiful backdrop of the Golden Gate Bridge welcome visitors to the Marina. Originally the location for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915 (whose remnants can be seen at the Palace of Fine Arts), much of the land was filled and flattened to accommodate a world’s fair. That ample space has given way to a jogger’s paradise at the northern edge of the city. With the picturesque bay setting as its backdrop, it’s no surprise that the area has hosted numerous movie productions. Daytime activities focus on café culture and boutique shopping, while the evenings turn this neighborhood into a party-going hotspot.
