first place we ate in san francisco because it was late and with in walking distance from our hotel. the place is styled after an old 50's dinner, with the juke box, chrome & neon through out. it was clean, service was good. now the food I liked mine open face roast beef sandwich, but my wife got a pot pie... We were disappointed. After one breakfast here on our first day of five in SF, we never returned. Average food. Very slow service. Acted like they were doing us a favor. Nothing special.

Was staying down the street and saw Mel's and I knew I had to give it a try. Our breakfasts were big and delicious. Service was a little slow, everyone was interested in the World Cup. My wife and I split the biscuits & gravy and my son had the pancakes. All was very good and lots to eat.

We got here early in the morning just as they were opening. The breakfast was delicious and quickly served. The best thing was our waitress, Alexsis, she was awesome. She gave us lots of good information about the city and was super sweet, friendly and attentive.

I was very excited to go to this restaurant, and the interior is great! Really looks like a diner! But the prices were too high, 8 dollars for the most dissapointing hamburger. The milkshakes were good, so I would go there just for the diner-look, music and a millshake!

This is a fantastic place for a 50s enthusiast and great fun for those of us who are not. Staff were great and the décor amazing. Food was ordinary but pleasant, certainly plenty of it. I would definitely return or try another Mels.

We went to this restaurant for Breakfast the first day we stayed in SF. It was recommended by our friends. But we were quite disappointed. Nothing stands out. The choices are even fewer than my hometown breakfast places. They don't even have crepe or pancake with fruit. However it is more expensive. Later we went to Home Plates, it is... More

We enjoy diner's. This was just like most. Good coffee, omelets were good, patty melt was okay. Try Mel's if you have already had breakfast at some of the other San Francisco breakfast spots.
