Nice dinner and apple pie

Not being from North America I always find it fun to go to these style of diner's. Plenty of options although with children it seems to depend on what mood they are in or how tired they are. Mel's on Lombard has parking which is a plus. The burgers are large and will undoubtedly fill you up. The turkey club was a great sandwich and the service was just fair. They do claim to have "Town's thickest milkshakes" which were the caliber of a normal ring spun shake. The prices there are a little steep for the scale... More

We had a fantastic breakfast with fresh juice at Mel's! Great atmosphere and a easy walk across the street from Cow Hollow Inn.

My husband and I came across Mel's Drive In one morning looking for a place to have breakfast. The place was busy but a place was found for us immediately. The service was excellent and my coffee cup was always filled up which is important first thing in the morning. We had omelets for breakfast the first day there and... More

Mels is on Lombard not far from our hotel, it was recommended to us by a tour bus driver, and it was OK, just OK. If you like the original greasy spoon diner you'll like Mel's. The décor is definitely a 60's dimer theme and the staff were good, the meal was ok, breakfast is hard to screw up and... More

We stopped in for an early dinner after walking SF all day. The burgers are ok, kids food is served up in a cardboard classic car, which they thought was pretty cool. They do have a jukebox if you want to choose some tunes to play. It was my son's birthday so the waitress sang happy birthday song at the... More

outdoor seating which we love, made it easy to watch our bikes. Food was not amazing, but pretty good. Gotta get the sweet potatoe fries if you get a burger.

Plenty of Parking and Fairly priced it is conveniently located on Lombard Street not far from the entrance into the Praesidio.. The lunch special was half of a sandwich, salad, and a fountain drink, which was very filling and delicious. The BLT and turkey half sandwich came with fries and tasted great. We also ordered a chicken pot pie and a chicken salad sandwich both delicious. The classic vanilla shake was amazing, one of the best we ever had. The waitress,... More

Staying in Marina District

Neighborhood Profile
Marina District
Beautiful homes, beautiful people, and a beautiful backdrop of the Golden Gate Bridge welcome visitors to the Marina. Originally the location for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915 (whose remnants can be seen at the Palace of Fine Arts), much of the land was filled and flattened to accommodate a world’s fair. That ample space has given way to a jogger’s paradise at the northern edge of the city. With the picturesque bay setting as its backdrop, it’s no surprise that the area has hosted numerous movie productions. Daytime activities focus on café culture and boutique shopping, while the evenings turn this neighborhood into a party-going hotspot.
