A real american diner!

Great place. We stayed across the road and had breakfast here most mornings and a couple of evening meals. Very clean. Lovely staff. Very varied menu they even had gluten free pancakes to die for with Maple syrup! Constant coffee refills with no extra charge as is normal in USA diners. Definitely... read more

We ate there March 19th because it was close to our hotel (The Coventry Motor Inn). We waited over an hour for our food and my daughter didn't get what she ordered so the waitress hastily removed it without an apology We observed staff wiping the crumbs from tables and bench seats with their hand vs. using cleaner and a... every time I go by this place is packed of people, (always a good sign )We decide to go during the week, less crowds. We are seated right away, clean and fast service. Menus has wonderful selection and I'm particularly excited about the fresh juice and smoothie options! I ordered a Protein smoothie and my husband full breakfast. Unfortunately, his... More

Went here a couple of times the week we were in San Francisco. Food was great (and huge!), service excellent. Loved playing the music on the personal jukeboxes at each table :)

I had lunch with several people in the Mel's Drive-In - Lombard, San Francisco. It was not too busy when we arrived at noon. They have a small parking lot next to the restaurant when you can find a spot. The food was good and they have good french fries (without salt) with gravy. Everybody enjoyed their food.

There is something for everyone here, although the menu leans toward American favorites such as burgers, fries and milkshakes. They have some interesting sandwiches too. I noticed a hot dish that rotated daily. I don't recall if they had salads or vegetarian options. I was with a group of people, and we ended up eating here twice. I guess that... More

I was looking for a quick breakfast to go. I had to get on a road trip early and was hoping for a breakfast sandwich of some sorts. Called in to Mel's and said they didn't have one on the menu, but they could make me one. I said sure! Typical, egg, ham, cheese on sourdough with a side of... More

We ate at Mel's twice during our recent stay in San Francisco. Ate here for breakfast the first day, the food was hot, delivered quickly, and the price was reasonable. Also ate a late-night dinner at 10 PM, which also was fast and filling. This is not gourmet faire, but the milkshakes were really good and the food satisfying. Don't... More

The service was horrible! There was one server for the whole restaurant and the manager stood around looking while she ran her butt off. No one helped her and even though she tried, we didn't get our coffee until we got the breakfast. The food was what you would expect from a low cost dive. It was greasy and not... More

This place was great that we ate here two times in our 5 day trip. It's a perfect place for breakfast as it has many options and food is quickly served. They also had a free parking lot which was great and not packed.

Neighborhood Profile
Marina District
Beautiful homes, beautiful people, and a beautiful backdrop of the Golden Gate Bridge welcome visitors to the Marina. Originally the location for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915 (whose remnants can be seen at the Palace of Fine Arts), much of the land was filled and flattened to accommodate a world’s fair. That ample space has given way to a jogger’s paradise at the northern edge of the city. With the picturesque bay setting as its backdrop, it’s no surprise that the area has hosted numerous movie productions. Daytime activities focus on café culture and boutique shopping, while the evenings turn this neighborhood into a party-going hotspot.
