Well Prepared Seafood and Excellent Raw Bar

I ordered to go and waited at the bar while it was prepared. Just after 5, it was happy hour, so 12 oysters on the half shell for $15.00...an excellent deal. Very fresh, service was good, about 20 minutes for 2 excellent entrees. Try the En Papillote dishes which are their specialty. Very good.

We ate here on spring break this year with out teenage daughter. The service and food were excellent. We each had one of the specials and none disappointed. The restaurant was full of who appeared to be locals. Laughter and happy conversations abounded. Highly recommended!!!

We lived in San Francisco for several years and this restaurant had a very good reputation. Eat there on a recent return trip and had poor service. We both ordered baked fish in paper which they claim as a specialty. My wife's was inedible and my was only slightly better. Service was inattentive at best. Worst dining experience we have... More

A friend was in town for the evening so we selected this restaurant due to proximity to the hotel and the family style to the restaurant. We met at the restaurant, which was not crowded on a Sunday evening. We were quickly seated in a table by the window. The pace was typical for an American restaurant - probably faster... More

The seabass wrapped in parchment paper was amazing! Worth the walk from our hotel. The cable cars run just out the front door as well. Would return!

I'm mystified by the many positive reviews of HSSH&RB. The decor is worn and dated, service was rushed, and while the oysters were fresh and tasty, the crab cakes were mushy and contained more filler than crab. There are many better-looking options along this stretch of Hyde.

First of all, we received a strong recommendation for this restaurant from the Concierge at the Fairmont. When we arrived we found the small restaurant to be warm and charming and all staff, including the owner, were very gracious. After reviewing the menu, we decided upon the Chowder (which was quite good and, in retrospect, was thankfully very filling...) As... More

We were referred by the Concierge of our hotel to this restaurant. There were four of us visiting from Texas . We were excited about enjoying the dungeness crab at this small local restaurant. We sat at the bar while waiting for our table. The bartender was very friendly and had a great sense of humor. We were seated and... More

Staying in Nob Hill

Neighborhood Profile
Nob Hill
Swanky and stylish, Nob Hill sits in the heart of the city and is home to amazing architecture and views. The hike to the top can be a challenging workout for those who forego a cable car ride, but they will be rewarded with some of the city’s most beautiful architecture adorning its peak. Originally populated with mansions after the Gold Rush, most if not all were devastated in the 1906 earthquake and fire that followed. Luckily all is not lost; storied hotels and Grace Cathedral surround Huntington Park. Having a drink or dinner while taking in the sunset and views at the "top of the Mark" is tough to beat.
