A16 is a restaurant and wine bar bringing the delicious and hospitable traditions of lively Campania to San Francisco. The chic, rustic/modernist venue is named after the motorway that transverses the South of Italy. The restaurant features wood oven-fired Neapolitan Pizza and other specialties of Campania such as Maccaronara with ragu napoletana and house-made ricotta salata. The wine bar serves 40 wines by the glass and half bottle carafe. The list is 60 percent Italian, mostly from the South, and the other 40 percent is New World, celebrating premiere Italian varietals grown in California along with many California wines.

A real Italian restaurant in the Marina

The only weakness was with the secondi (main course) as it was simply done meats. The secondi was not unlike Italy, so I should not complain.

I’d heard about A16 for years but had never eaten there. I finally made it in for dinner on my birthday. I kept my eye on the ball, stayed focused and ordered pizza. Not sure what's so whoop-tee-do about their crust that I needed to cut it myself *with scissors*, but that was the expectation - so I did it.... More

This was a recommendation from the hotel and sometimes I shy away from those but this place was truly amazing. I was traveling on business and it was my first time in San Francisco and I actually recommended to go back here on my trip. First off the Wine List is amazing. I was lucky and had no reservations but... More

While staying in SFO, a friend recommended A16 and we were pleased he did. We tried to make a reservation and noticed that nothing was available between 5:30 and 9pm - definitely a good sign so we grabbed the 5:30 slot. The restaurant was empty to start as it was so early, but it quickly filled up. Lovely staff... fantastic... More

We love A16 and try to go whenever we're in the city! It was our first time for lunch. We were celebrating my son's birthday and decided to get several dishes to share - they were all AMAZING!!! For our appetizer we selected the Burrata then moved on to the Mussels and Squid Ink Pasta with Clams followed by the... More

I visited several years ago. I was able to enjoy the delicious cuisine and a very nice service. It is one of the restaurants that want to also visit for me.

At some point during our meal I worried that the other diners were staring at us as we voraciously slurped down one of the best pizzas we have ever tasted! The crust was perfect the sauce was perfect the cheese was perfect. We were in pizza Nirvana. The margarita pizza with fresh basil and fennel sausage was was simply tremendous.... More

Pleasant foodie restaurant, and not full of themselves. We had the chicken liver startermaccaronara ragu napoletana and ricotta salata, and then the trout puntarella with a meyer lemon sauce. Both were delicious and portions were generous enough to share without being overwhelming. Their wine list is very extensive and interesting -- an unusual presentation of non-standard mid and southern Italian... More

My wife and I had a great dinner here tonight. We started out with a dish of olives, she had the chicken livers, and I, the mussels. We then split a fungi pizza. Our waiter was excellent. We were not rushed at all, he made us feel comfortable from the beginning. We both were happy with our choice this evening.... More

We ate at A16 last night and enjoyed a wonderful dinner again. We're pretty hard to please (NW foodies), and we savored every bite of what we ordered. We had little gems salad, chicories salad, burrata, and a couple of pizzas. Salads were generous, fresh, fantastic. Pizzas (we ordered the fennel sausage and margherita) were full of flavor and well... More

Staying in Marina District

Neighborhood Profile
Marina District
Beautiful homes, beautiful people, and a beautiful backdrop of the Golden Gate Bridge welcome visitors to the Marina. Originally the location for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915 (whose remnants can be seen at the Palace of Fine Arts), much of the land was filled and flattened to accommodate a world’s fair. That ample space has given way to a jogger’s paradise at the northern edge of the city. With the picturesque bay setting as its backdrop, it’s no surprise that the area has hosted numerous movie productions. Daytime activities focus on café culture and boutique shopping, while the evenings turn this neighborhood into a party-going hotspot.
