A16 is a restaurant and wine bar bringing the delicious and hospitable traditions of lively Campania to San Francisco. The chic, rustic/modernist venue is named after the motorway that transverses the South of Italy. The restaurant features wood oven-fired Neapolitan Pizza and other specialties of Campania such as Maccaronara with ragu napoletana and house-made ricotta salata. The wine bar serves 40 wines by the glass and half bottle carafe. The list is 60 percent Italian, mostly from the South, and the other 40 percent is New World, celebrating premiere Italian varietals grown in California along with many California wines.

We where visiting SF and a friend recommended A16. A very welcoming place with interesting food and great service. A great wine list with many interesting choices and an owner who knows what to recommend makes this place special.

Strolling down Chestnut St. on Saturday afternoon Marilyn spots A16 restaurant across the street and has to try it. With no reservation we walk in and the host seats us at the counter in front of the grill chef. We're actually delighted. Not only are we going to get to try the food, we're seeing it prepared! Our server Laura... More

You can't go wrong here. Smaller, long narrow restaurant with a nice vibe. It fits a lot of people but you still feel like you have your own space (unlike some places nearby) All the staff are great and say hi as you walk thru. They were all very prompt with multiple people checking on you. A bit spendy ($68... More

This place is small and tables are close together ( I usually hate this) but some how A16 makes it all work, it's intimate and romantic. There food is spectacular. I've had the Fish dish specials and we have also enjoyed the Fungi Pizza, this is something you have to try!!! It's awesome!! The staff is kind and fun, weaving... More

Wonderful dinner at A16 last week. I had the burrata salad and the maccaronara ragu napoletana with ricotta. Both were prepared so beautifully. Food tasted fabulous and it was elegant without being stuffy. Perfect size proportions. The dining room was full and we were seated in the back -- in what seemed to be an extenstion of the building. Turns... More

Staying in Marina District

Neighborhood Profile
Marina District
Beautiful homes, beautiful people, and a beautiful backdrop of the Golden Gate Bridge welcome visitors to the Marina. Originally the location for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915 (whose remnants can be seen at the Palace of Fine Arts), much of the land was filled and flattened to accommodate a world’s fair. That ample space has given way to a jogger’s paradise at the northern edge of the city. With the picturesque bay setting as its backdrop, it’s no surprise that the area has hosted numerous movie productions. Daytime activities focus on café culture and boutique shopping, while the evenings turn this neighborhood into a party-going hotspot.
