A16 is a restaurant and wine bar bringing the delicious and hospitable traditions of lively Campania to San Francisco. The chic, rustic/modernist venue is named after the motorway that transverses the South of Italy. The restaurant features wood oven-fired Neapolitan Pizza and other specialties of Campania such as Maccaronara with ragu napoletana and house-made ricotta salata. The wine bar serves 40 wines by the glass and half bottle carafe. The list is 60 percent Italian, mostly from the South, and the other 40 percent is New World, celebrating premiere Italian varietals grown in California along with many California wines.

Very good but leave my plate alone

Hahah the food was really great as was the wine selection and ambiance. Just what you would expect from the reputation. The service could have been better- rushed, a little chummy, and on two occasions they tried to take my plate away before I had a chance to scrape the sauce up with my pizza... read more

We had a reservation for 8pm on Sat. night but were not seated until 9pm. They comped part of our meal but it was a little to late. Wish they had just told us they couldn't actually give us the reservation when we made it.

Good vibe, quality ingredients..but service missed the mark. I get what they are trying to do...but they need to improve a buch of things. The wine list is ridiculously large and confusing. It took more than 15 or 20 mins for them to bring our bottle. Our waiter was friendly, but busy and not really able to serve us well.... More

We ordered the heirloom tomato salad and it was great fresh and very juicy. We had one more summary salad that was nice, too salty to my taste. The Fungi pizza was great, with lots of nice mushrooms, yummy! perfect crust and sauce. We had to try the dessert and it was so so :(. Fennel Peach Hazelnut Panna Cotta... More

We visitied A16 in the fall on our honeymoon. Everything was fantastic - our server was a sweetheart and recommended the margherita pizza. So glad we listened - it was great! They serve their pizza UNCUT, and give you pizza scissors.. This was probably my favorite part. We also ordered the burrata appetizer, and I have to say this was... More

If you are looking for beautifully cooked Italian food then look no further. This is a buzzy local restaurant suited to small groups or couples who don't mind a bit of hubbub from the enjoyment of other guests. If you do and you seek a bit more quiet as a couple then ask to be seated in the back Garden... More

Strolling down Chestnut St. on Saturday afternoon Marilyn spots A16 restaurant across the street and has to try it. With no reservation we walk in and the host seats us at the counter in front of the grill chef. We're actually delighted. Not only are we going to get to try the food, we're seeing it prepared! Our server Laura... More

Staying in Marina District

Neighborhood Profile
Marina District
Beautiful homes, beautiful people, and a beautiful backdrop of the Golden Gate Bridge welcome visitors to the Marina. Originally the location for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915 (whose remnants can be seen at the Palace of Fine Arts), much of the land was filled and flattened to accommodate a world’s fair. That ample space has given way to a jogger’s paradise at the northern edge of the city. With the picturesque bay setting as its backdrop, it’s no surprise that the area has hosted numerous movie productions. Daytime activities focus on café culture and boutique shopping, while the evenings turn this neighborhood into a party-going hotspot.
