Tapas are the best

The Paella Valenciana is wonderful and in abundance. They have an excellent selection of tapas, both cold and hot. The service is top quality. The food is always very good

What a great find. Saw the restaurant while riding the cable car. The reviews were excellent, so we gave it a try. It didn't disappoint. What a great experience. Everything perfect. Excellent food. Excellent service. Went on a Thursday at about 7 pm and we were lucky to grab the last table available. We had the patatas bravas, casuela de... More

My adult children and I were celebrating a special occasion and chose Zarzuela to reminisce our time together in Spain 7 years ago. The restaurant is in a lovely location, the ambiance is very good, service was great and the tapas portions were perfect. We found that the food was average and this could be because we were comparing it... More

We went on a Tuesday night around 7 pm, it was not very busy and we were sat right away. The restaurant was somewhat empty, about 50% of capacity. Our waiter was great, he gave us all the time we needed with the menu. We end up splitting a pitcher of sangria between the 4 of us (the best deal... More

We were celebrating my son's 25th birthday. Thanks to Arturo we had a very special meal. The food was excellent. I highly recommend the lamb chops, gazpacho, gambas, mussels and goat cheese in tomato sauce. The house carafe of sangria was Excellent and an exceptional value. Save room for dessert. The cheese cake, Cream Catalan and chocolate cake were great.... More

My son couldn't wait to take me to this place in his Russian Hill neighborhood during my latest visit. I wasn't disappointed. A small room welcomes us with terrific ambiance and the wonderful smells of Spanish cooking. Since we didn't make reservations, we experienced a short wait and were rewarded with a great corner table. We started with roasted peppers... More

We accidentally stumbled across this restaurants & will return as the tapas were Grade A and the house sangria and tempranillo were reminiscent of the "madre patria"! The staff was friendly, professional, & the chef/owner will guide you to a Spanish deli so that you can muster up your own tapas at home. Lovely restaurant & walking distance to the... More

A group of us went to Zarzuela to celebrate the 60th birthday of one of the friends. I've been there a few times in the past and love the food. This time was as good, if not better, than the previous visits. At least the food was. The exceptional dishes are the quail (the sauce is out of this world),... More

This small restaurant serves authentic Spanish food in a casual, enjoyable atmosphere in the charming Russian Hill neighborhood of San Francisco. The staff is unbelievably skilled and hospitable. With a chef from Madrid and a menu that offers the best of traditional Spanish cuisine, you simply cannot go wrong. Reservations are not accepted so go early, kick back, enjoy a... More

My husband and I went to this popular Spanish restaurant dispute our son telling us it was terrible. Every evening there is a crowd inside so I thought I would give it a try. Well, my son was right. It took too long after we were seated to get an acknowledgment from the waiter. Once we ordered we had to... More

Staying in Russian Hill

Neighborhood Profile
Russian Hill
Russian Hill has evolved into a chic residential neighborhood with outstanding views from every corner. Combined with several great cafes, restaurants, antique shops and boutiques, it’s easy to see why any visitor would gladly leave their heart in San Francisco. Cars line up day after day to drive down Lombard Street, the “crookedest” street in the world, and make the slow creep downhill past charming period homes. Polk Street is the main drag in this neighborhood, where you will find trendy bars, cafes and shops populated with locals, but for one of the most charming rides in the city, grab a cable car heading up and down Hyde Street.
