Spanish in SF

It's about a 15 minute walk from fishermen's wharf and right off the cable car line (bus route 19, with 5 min walk uphill on unions). There are lots of small local restaurants in this area. This one is very good and we enjoyed the food, atmosphere and service. Take the time and do like the locals... read more

My husband and I went to this popular Spanish restaurant dispute our son telling us it was terrible. Every evening there is a crowd inside so I thought I would give it a try. Well, my son was right. It took too long after we were seated to get an acknowledgment from the waiter. Once we ordered we had to... More

Never knew how much we enjoyed Spanish food!! The service here was impeccable and the wait staff seemed happy to be doing their job, even though it was Christmas Day! The explanation of each tapa and meal was thorough. The portions were perfect! We were given plenty of time to enjoy each course even though there were some waiting for... More

I lived half a block from Zarzuela for 12 years, and have loved eating there. I never get bored of the selection of tapas. So many favorites.... the dates wrapped in bacon are delectable, the anchovies are subtle and juicy wonderfulness, the Spanish pie of the day is always yummy. I also like how the staff have stayed with the... More

I always prefer my own home made cuisine but when I go out, my priority is to get fresh food instead of frozen stuff. My Italian/French palate can tell when it's home made style with love and maybe someone singing to let it cook the right way. This place got my attention :O) Anton

Every meal is prepared to perfection, exceeding your expectations and satisfying every taste. This is gem of Hyde street and Russian Hill that you'll always remeber, and you'll keep coming back. I had the best time at this restaurant, I believe the food is the best Tapas in the Bay Area. The ambience is incredible, from the singing waiter to the decor. The food is spectacular. The Tortilla Espanola (Potato Omelette) was just like my Grandmothers. If the Padron Peppers are in season they are not to be missed.

Even though we were quoted a long wait time, the staff was very sweet and accommodating seeing that our baby was not that patient to wait. The atmosphere is very quaint, maybe a little loud weekend nights. The food was quickly served and an excellent value given the ingredients. Overall a wonderful dinner complete with sangria (very good) and a... More

A smallish neighborhood joint, this place delivers big world flavors ! The decor reminds you of a simple, continental locale, complete with an owner with big, friendly personality. Tables are tight, but not clostrophobic. great, classic Spanish tapas menu - sardines, beans, boquerones, figs in bacon. Nice, but simple, wine list. Helpful waiters, always at the ready. Get there before... More

Staying in Russian Hill

Neighborhood Profile
Russian Hill
Russian Hill has evolved into a chic residential neighborhood with outstanding views from every corner. Combined with several great cafes, restaurants, antique shops and boutiques, it’s easy to see why any visitor would gladly leave their heart in San Francisco. Cars line up day after day to drive down Lombard Street, the “crookedest” street in the world, and make the slow creep downhill past charming period homes. Polk Street is the main drag in this neighborhood, where you will find trendy bars, cafes and shops populated with locals, but for one of the most charming rides in the city, grab a cable car heading up and down Hyde Street.
