Exceptional!

Location. Location. Location! Service. Service. Service! Food. Food. Food! The chef's menu was outstanding. The wine pairing was exceptional. Our servers, Mandy and Vanessa were exceptional as well. A must visit! The foie gras was exceptional. This is when hepatomegaly is a good thing.

We ate at La Folie on the first night of our honeymoon. We were seated quickly but did wait a long time for someone to take our drink orders and explain the menu. Our first several courses were excellent! However, by the time we got to the main courses, we were both getting full. My husband ordered the foie gras.... More

La Folie is a gem: Small, charming, elegant, delicious. La Folie has been part of the gourmet food scene in SF since 1988. I dined there when it first opened and several times since, including recently. ATMOSPHERE: elegant, quiet, but with a bit of convivial sound, NOT so quiet you can hear a pin drop. We dined with our two... More

I had an amazing food adventure from start to end. The presentations, textures and tastes are great. Service is fantastic. I look forward to another wow experience.

I am not a professional reviewer, and this is just my opinion. Roland Passot is in the kitchen (and not presiding an "empire" of extravagantly priced eateries in Vegas or Dubai) so you know you're in good hands. His early training was at Léon de Lyon, so you know the man can cook. No molecular cuisine here, no silly puffery,... More

My husband and I had an incredible experience (I hesitate to only call this a meal) at La Folie. Service was professional and friendly, top-notch. Every staff member knew it was our anniversary and went of their way to make our night special. This is an expensive restaurant and definitely a splurge. But it was so worth it. We each... More

This will be a delectable review - for I just experiences one of the best meals I've ever eaten. I made a reservation with Open Table and was surprised to be able to get a 6pm table on a Saturday night just 2 weeks out. However i would not chance this in the future - The Passots have created an... More

My wife and I went here last week for dinner. The total experience was excellent. They offer a choice of 3, 4 or 5 courses at fixed prices. That way you can customize your meal to your liking. I had the 3 course and ordered the A5 wagyu beef ($70 extra) which was very tender and full of flavor. The... More

We went to SF for Angel's birthday and ate at La Folie one night. It was truly excellent. When we arrived we were greeted warmly by a woman at the bar. We gave our name and she responded with a "Happy Birthday!" for Angel. We were seated at a nice corner table at the back of the restaurant, perfect for... More

Our night at La Folie was to celebrate my birthday as was our trip to California. You know, one of those with a big "zero" at the end! Every aspect of our dining experience was extraordinary beginning with the warm, friendly, and professional service from Iva. I cannot praise her enough. She was knowledgeable about the menu, her wine pairings... More

Staying in Russian Hill

Neighborhood Profile
Russian Hill
Russian Hill has evolved into a chic residential neighborhood with outstanding views from every corner. Combined with several great cafes, restaurants, antique shops and boutiques, it’s easy to see why any visitor would gladly leave their heart in San Francisco. Cars line up day after day to drive down Lombard Street, the “crookedest” street in the world, and make the slow creep downhill past charming period homes. Polk Street is the main drag in this neighborhood, where you will find trendy bars, cafes and shops populated with locals, but for one of the most charming rides in the city, grab a cable car heading up and down Hyde Street.
