Cool place with great cheese platter in a warm inviting atmosphere that encourages socializing. Beautiful bathroom too.

First meal was superb, and the second time did not disappoint either. Excellent service. Tried new things this time and once again, all dishes excellent: foie gras, steak, venison special, lobster risotto, goat cheese tatin, quail roti. Cannot say anything bad about them. Desserts, though still quite good were outshone by the entrees. It's expensive, and worth every penny if... More

My best Friend lives in the area and this is one of her favorite restaurants. She took me here for for my Birthday Dinner and wow what an experience. From start to finish the service was astounding. They even catered to my shellfish allergy. Each bite into each item was so flavorful and mouthwatering. I enjoyed each taste. The flavors... More

A few years back I had the pleasure of dining here and the food was delicious. Wonderful service, everything exceeded my expectations. Nevertheless, I celebrated my birthday this month and was very disappointed. The food is elaborate and sophisticated but the taste average. It has become one of those restaurants where the description of the food far exceeds the taste.... More

Food and service were awesome. Does not get a perfect rating as it ended up being more expensive per person than French Laundry or Gary Danko. Valentine's dinner and the place looked great. This was a five course meal with an option for a caviar starter. That was a treat with one ounce of Russian caviar and cream on a... More

Enjoyed a special New Year's eve dinner. Atmosphere was lively and festive, but service remained impeccable. The special seven course meal was well prepared and the flavors were beautifully subtle and imaginative. The optional wine pairings were well selected and enhanced the meal. Chef Roland Passot personally brought in the New Year standing on top of the bar. An epic... More

Oh yea.... Fois gras fans celebrate. It's back in CA again. No one does it better than La Folie. Everything else on the menu is fab, service excellent, lovely dining room - but go for the fois gras!! Prepare to spend some pretty pennies. Every one is worth it. And while you're there, splurge on some bubbles... Can't wait to... More

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, and that is the spirit of Tripadvisor. I can only write this review from the sparkling experience I was given at this remarkable place. From downtown San Francisco it may be off the beaten track from Union Square and the touristy leather chair restaurants there, however, the short cab ride, across Sutter and up... More

Excellent service and surroundings, pity the food was not at all at the level of a restaurant of this category. I would not go back. The food just lacks that WOW touch !!

Neighborhood Profile
Russian Hill
Russian Hill has evolved into a chic residential neighborhood with outstanding views from every corner. Combined with several great cafes, restaurants, antique shops and boutiques, it’s easy to see why any visitor would gladly leave their heart in San Francisco. Cars line up day after day to drive down Lombard Street, the “crookedest” street in the world, and make the slow creep downhill past charming period homes. Polk Street is the main drag in this neighborhood, where you will find trendy bars, cafes and shops populated with locals, but for one of the most charming rides in the city, grab a cable car heading up and down Hyde Street.
