Excellent meal and great service. Great menu with lots of choice, and waiters good at recommending dishes. On taking their recommendations (gnocchi, octopus salad, duck and roast chicken) we were not disappointed. The warm dark and white chocolate bread pudding with homemade hazelnut ice cream was devine as was the wine! Highly recommend

Lovely, generous Italian cooking and a nice wine list. I would be very surprised if you went away disappointed. Not a large place so book ahead. Outside the tourist season the obvious way to get here is on the cable car from Powell Station (but less so when the cable cars are crammed full and queues are long).

They misled us about their special birthday dessert. Naturally when you called the restaurant asking about special for the birthday person and the owner told you that he had a cake on the menu for that, you would thought he meant it's special thing they do for the birthday person, but that was not the case. And when you questioned... More

Excellent food, great service. And desserts! This restaurant is best approached on foot. Walking up hill stimulates the appetite, making you hungry for a chair and good food. We had the duck, porkshop, and tuna, all a revelation. Also the chicken, the restaurant's signature dish (the artichoke, I thought when I tasted from my friend's plate, was a little chewy).... More

Server had attitude from the minute we sat down. When asked if he recemmended the glass of Barbera or Sangiovese and he didn't know. He gave me a look like I shouldn't of asked. He said either was fine but was very short and seemed to be bothered that we were from out of town and not neighborhood folks. The... More

Frascati serves very well prepared American food in a low key, elegant environment. And although each dish would get high marks on a culinary school grading scale, nothing was particularly unique or memorable. Except, of course, for the chocolate bread pudding, which is in my estimation the best dessert in San Francisco. If you haven't tasted this, you have not... More

An excellent neighborhood restaurant on Hyde Street. It is small compared to some, but the service and food were superb. The wait stay were always overlooking all tables and attending to any and all needs. The presentation of the courses were excellent and the taste and varied textures with each course was superb.

Still the best place on Russian Hill. Went back for dinner during our visit to SF and just loved it. The food is fantastic and the service wonderful. You should definitely try the pork chop, to die for and the octopus salad is wonderful. My wife had the chicken and she raved it as the best. Altogether the food is... More

This little gem was suggested by friends of ours who used to live in the Bay Area. It does not disappoint. It reminded us of some of the special little neighborhood gems you can find in Manhatten. Excellent food, amazing waitstaff. Highly recommend that you make reservations. Will definitely return when in SF again.

Staying in Russian Hill

Neighborhood Profile
Russian Hill
Russian Hill has evolved into a chic residential neighborhood with outstanding views from every corner. Combined with several great cafes, restaurants, antique shops and boutiques, it’s easy to see why any visitor would gladly leave their heart in San Francisco. Cars line up day after day to drive down Lombard Street, the “crookedest” street in the world, and make the slow creep downhill past charming period homes. Polk Street is the main drag in this neighborhood, where you will find trendy bars, cafes and shops populated with locals, but for one of the most charming rides in the city, grab a cable car heading up and down Hyde Street.
