sublime food, sublime service

Foie Gras was politically incorrect and absolutely fabulous, but oddly was served without toast--as it would be at every other fine-dining restaurant on Earth. Disappointingly, my server told me that wasn't the case. Even Guy Savoy in Paris serves his seared foie gras with potato chips. The corn... read more

Had dinner the other night with my wife and daughter at Gary Danko. The dining room is very nice with not too bright lighting. We brought a bottle of 1986 Mouton Rothschild, and there was no problem with that. We did also buy a nice rose champagne for the first couple of courses. The amuse bouche was a very refreshing... This is my HG of restaurants. I've probably only eaten here about 5 times but that's how good it is. I always have the 5 courses because, to be honest, why not when you are at Gary Danko? First course: Ahi, second course: risotto, third: ahi, fourth: lobster, fifth: chocolate souffle. Of note - yes, i had the ahi tuna... More

Eating at Gary Dankos is not just a meal out, it's an experience! The inside of the restaurant is beautiful and all off the staff are friendly and helpful. The food was delicious although very expensive. We had the 4 course set meal and thoroughly enjoyed it! Would recommend booking far in advance though! They even give ladies a small... More

French Laundry, step aside........this place continues to impress me. The Seared Foie Gras with Caramelized Onions and Peaches was TO DIE FOR!! Service impeccable and wine list even better. Loved it. JC

Gary Danko is one of my favorite gourmet restaurants in San Francisco. It has excellent service. The waiters are very attentive, a little too much sometimes. The waiters are there to please. I love going there for a special occasion like my birthday or a family/friend's birthday. It is more adult oriented. They have a set menu with two or... More

Gary Danko probably won't get additional Michelin stars because it doesn't get lost in the required "food as performance art" thing. I'm more than fine with their choosing to focus on the food and service instead. GD is our favorite San Francisco restaurant. The food is wonderful, that's obviously the most important. But makes it such a great complete experience... More

One of the best dining experiences in San Francisco. Exceptional service with a menu that is mouth-wateringly creative and beautifully executed. Books two-months out for most; hotels keep a few tables available. You will be over-joyed with your selections. Go!

We chose this to celebrate a birthday. Nice restaurant, but tables placed too close to each other. Even speaking softly, you end up hearing what they are talking at the next table. But leaving that part aside, everything else at this restaurant was wonderful. My friend chose the 5 course tasting menu and I did the 4 course and it... More
