Outstanding in every regard

Great food quality and ambience. It doesn't come cheap, but it is worth every dollar. Our favorite restaurant on a San Fran weekend where we tried several highly ranked choices. 5 star on Appetizer, entree and desert.

Everything about this restaurant was top-notch. The service was impeccable, the sommelier even gave us a list of places to visit in Napa, Ca, as he was from there! Above and beyond. The food was outstanding. I have eaten in other restaurants that were much more money and half as good. (see Chicago.) We will most definitely make this restaurant... More

Visiting San Francisco, and a couple of days before arriving decided to try my luck and get a table. 3 seatings available an 8pm on one night, and 2 10pms on other nights. Lesson here ... book early. They accept reservations two months out. Anniversary dinner for wife and I and we opted for the 3 course menu. As it... More

Friends and other foodies recommended a visit. Our expectations were more than met. Intimate seating in the restaurant (degustation only) and non-reservable "drop-in" seating at the bar. We chose the latter so were able to choose a la carte. We only had to wait 5 minutes for a seat. Foodie paradise. Well constructed dishes and strongly executed. Not a poor... More

We've eaten here several times and have always had a memorable experience. It's best for a very special occasion so that you savor and appreciate it all. We enjoyed the 5 course menu served with just right timed precision. Reservations needed and plan ahead for the best experience, we've found week notes are more enjoyable. ...

I think the Gary Danko is the best restaurant in the SFBay area. I love that you can choose from a 3, 4, or 5 course menu. The service is impeccable. The food is magic that makes every visit a special occasion.

Once you get over the booking and confirmation hurdle (hard when you live outside the US) this is a great restaurant. From the moment you arrive the maître d makes you feel welcome and special, this man works hard and really runs the room. The staff are fast and efficient, and also very pleasant to talk to. The food is... More

Always packed for a hundred reasons. An amazing list of choices and the plates are not small. I was satisfied ordering three items from the appetizer section of the menu. One can order from any of the sections. Had a Reuilly wine that was the best I have ever enjoyed . This place is reasonably priced for the quality and... More

I was lucky to reserve a table an ordinary Thursday night during our stay in San Francisco. In our initial email conversation I asked the restaurant regarding dress code - they descibed it as 'elegant attire' or 'casual business' and added very useful tips for men and women. Very nice to know for a first time visitor. We enjoyed a... More

We go to Restaurant Gary Danko about once a year. It is the main reason we visit San Francisco. The ambience, service, and food are outstanding. The menu is unusual in that one can order 3 entrées, 3 appetizers, or even 3 desserts if desired. We usually order one appetizer and both a fish and meat entrée. We have never... More
