Good hearty food and great service

The servers were really friendly and attentive. Decor was an acquired taste but very fitting with the local neighbourhood. Ate breakfast here twice on our 4 day visit to the Castro. Hot cakes were huge and struggled to finish our huge portions on both visits! Would definitely come here again

The food is great. It's really homestyle cooking. The portions are immense, too, and I always feel like I should dine with someone so that we can split the dishes. My last visit was slightly marred, though. I asked for a copy of the check (with the dishes itemized) for my corporate accounting department, and it freaked them out (normally,... More

Tasty typical greasy spoon grub at good prices but service leaves a lot to be desired. Server was patronsing and seemed very fake, made it clear he was only interested in local customers leaving us feeling very arkward. Toilet was grim and situated inside the kitchen! Ate our lunch and made a swift exit.

Perfect San Francisco atmosphere, good food and lovely people. I spent ten days in Castro and I had breakfast, lunch and dinner in this place five times.

We visited this restaurant while visiting the Castro. The servers were incredibly friendly and the food was good. He really enjoyed his burger, I loved my pulled pork sandwich.

Whether it is midday, after the bars or for a hearty breakfast. This place is a mainstay of the Castro area. Every city has that one diner that everybody east at in their village, for SF ...it is Orphan Andy's. The staff are warm and welcoming, and can handle whatever walks through their doors.

This diner is a Castro institution. They've been here forever. I lived only two blocks from this place 25 years ago and ate here very often. Now when I visit San Francisco I make a point of having breakfast here. Food is the same, consistent and great. I've never had a bad meal here. It's not fancy, atmosphere is funky... More

All the selections are great but I keep returning for the homemade chicken soup! I've been going here for 20+ years and never an issue.

A very small place, and you'll probably have to wait for a table; but well worth the wait. Try and get one of the two window tables for "live entertainment" outside. The menu is extensive, and I have never had anything there I didn't like. I recommend the minestrone soup! Or an order of banana/chocolate chip pancakes.

The Castro
A flourishing commercial area that acts as San Francisco's LGBT community center and cultural heart, the Castro is a neighborhood welcome to everyone. As one of the first predominantly LGBT neighborhoods in the United States and currently its largest, it remains one of the epicenters of activism in the nation.
