This is a intimate place for 1 to 4 people. The seafood cocktails are a great start and the pasta of the days always is 5 stars. A little pricy but portions are very generous. Also if you don't come at the rite time you can wait for a table for over a hour, but it is well worth it... More

I usually don't wait for a table, but we waited for an hour for this one and it was worth the wait. They have a nice variety of oysters and all were good. I suggests to try the sampler tray which included oysters, shrimp and clams. The clam chowder and ceasar's salad were relish. A must try when in San... More

Tiny place, almost always busy.. Excellent chowder (New England), and wide assortment of clams/oysters/muscles--large portions and all fairly priced. This is a 'must do' place to eat while in The Castro neighborhood. The place is clean, staff friendly and attentive. Yeah, I recommend trying the Anchor.

Anchor Oyster Bar has been around for 38 years (I think the anniversary was the week after we were there) and in a town like San Francisco that should tell you all you need to know. Decor, not really; size, nope; fancy, not at all. Food, AMAZING. Simple but wonderful seafood served by extremely nice staff in a great little... More

Even at 3pm, this place is crowded. Decent seafood and shellfish. Better than most (all?) places at Fisherman's Wharf.

Come here! Order the oysters!!! And Steamed Clams!! And save room for Cioppino!!! It is the best! I've tried cioppino all over and this is by far the best. We love the hole in the wall size of this place... Love that you sign yourself in... And the decor is too cute. This is a fun date place.

Small cozy place with coherent seafood decor and we choose a sitting at the bar. Friendly service and good help with choosing an exciting menu; starter split oyster taste plate including a Boston chowder and for mains, scrimp vegetables and a mussel pasta. All cooked perfect and a super introduction to oysters and seafood. Experienced seafood eaters won't find much... More

Don't be put out by the neighborhood, small setting, or prices. It is worth it. Call and find out when they open and be there then, or else you will wait a significant time. Place only seats maybe 30 people. Food is amazing no mater what you get and staff was good.
