I make it a point to eat at the Anchor whenever I am in San Francisco. It is a tiny place with a small but dependable menu and daily specials. The cioppino is AMAZING, but even the "smaller" bowl is huge and could easily be dinner for two, so I can't get it when I am travelling alone. Next... read more

This is a quaint place worth the wait. There is often a line up but it is worth the wait and you never know who will be sitting right next to you. Warm, friendly , good for the seafood lover or foodie.

The oysters and seafood items are wonderful at Anchor. We arrived for a late lunch so the crowds were not a problem. The place is tiny so a group probably will not work unless you work something out with the staff. There is about 7 counter seats and small tables for another 10-15 people. Food wise ... We enjoyed a... More

Yes, it's tiny and yes, you'll wait, and no they don't serve wine on the sidewalk, but Anchor is worth the trouble. One of many places to have fresh oysters, what sets Anchor apart are the other seafood options from which to choose - chef specials, amazing, fresh salads, incredible Boston clam chowder (which a manager actually brought to-go cups... We came to town for a dig show. After the show my grandson wanted to try shellfish. I checked my trusty Trip Advisor and picked a place I had never been. We lucked out arriving just before 5. They were already full but we only had to wait about 10 minutes to sit at the bar. I was worried when... More

Aside from the amazing seafood, this place has the best garlic bread ever. You can't reserve so my suggestion is get in line, order some take out garlic bread to snack on and await your seat!

Small and nice place with a good atmosphere. If you like oysters .... this is the place !!! We have had different type of oysters, oyster shooter with Bloody Mary (real good!!!!), Boston clam chowder, a soup with clams, a crab cocktail, a sauteed garlic prawns ... and a half liter of white wine. We were in three and we... More

What a neighborhood treasure, but please don't tell anyone about how fresh and delicious the seafood is here. It's a tiny place, always a wait, and although we don't mind the wait you should! Please, really, you do not want to put your name on the list hanging on the door and possibly getting a table before us.

This is a intimate place for 1 to 4 people. The seafood cocktails are a great start and the pasta of the days always is 5 stars. A little pricy but portions are very generous. Also if you don't come at the rite time you can wait for a table for over a hour, but it is well worth it... More

I usually don't wait for a table, but we waited for an hour for this one and it was worth the wait. They have a nice variety of oysters and all were good. I suggests to try the sampler tray which included oysters, shrimp and clams. The clam chowder and ceasar's salad were relish. A must try when in San... More
