Anchor Oyster Bar has been my favorite since 1997 when I started to travel to SF (and eventually live here). The decor hasn't changed since I've started to come here and it doesn't look at all dated so they must spend a lot of time with silent upkeep. The food is classic American seafood, but it is always so fresh... More

Well my ex husband Ron chose this place. Crab cakes were yummy. I had a small salad with shrimp, was good. He had the clam chowder. People eating up a storm. Counter and tables kinda casual. On a bus route on Castro Street.

I've been dining at San Francisco restaurants over the last fifty years. My parents enjoyed the great San Francisco restaurants and often included my sisters and I in their San Francisco visits. We didn't know anything about the Oyster Bar until a local told us that the Oyster Bar had some of the best seafood in the City. We tried... More

For the most authentic clam chowder in San Fra this is the place to hit up. Im originally from Boston, so I know my choowders, and it could easily compete with any from back home!

We try to go early to avoid waiting in line. There is almost never a line if we make it there before 6:30. The restaurant is small with only half a dozen tables and about 10 bar seats but what this place is missing in size, it makes up in taste and staff friendliness. The waiters are wonderful and they... I wasn't feeling 100% so I just ordered the clam chowder as I've heard SanFran has the best. I expected a lot more from this place based on the wait and their reviews but the chowder was definitely average especially served from a warm pot on the counter. My wife really enjoyed her seafood platter so all in all, an... More

Excellent food. Excellent people. I love to sit at the bar and watch the staff in action. Yes the restaurant is notorious for a wait for a seat. The Dungeness crab is excellent. Despite the masses waiting outside for a seat the staff have never rushed service or the food. All in due time.

Dropping by for a late lunch on a Thursday, we got a table quickly. For an oyster bar, we would have expected more oysters on the menu, but the ones we had were delicious and the clams was served in a fantastic soup / sauce. The waiters were polite and quick, but did neither add to nor reduced the experience.
