Busy, fun place with good food.

First time there. Lineup but seemed to move quickly and we had fun chatting with people outside. Sat at counter which is actually best place to watch all the action and meet people sitting beside you. Good chowder.

This is a very small restaurant and is usually crowded by those willing to stand in line for some fabulous fresh seafood. Very reasonable prices for all but had to start with an OYSTER SHOT ($3.50). Small tumbler glass with clamato juice, an oyster and a celery stick. Down the hatch. Lovely flavour! Stayed with the traditional clam chowder and... More

Not my first time and for this reason not a discover but a confirmation: great value for the area. When you see the line outside, i am not alone to think it. Fish fresh restaurant: bistrolike. All is in the plate and not around. The taste are simple but well done. The cioppino is excellent. About the price: sfo like.... More

Great restaurant but VERY SMALL! There are 6 or 7 tables and a bar to sit at. We waited 45 minutes outside in the cold wind (on May 29th). Mom loved the oyster, clams and prawns, I had the cioppino, and my wife had the special. All excellent!

I get to San Francisco 4-5 times a year for the last 6 years and have not missed a chance to dine at Anchor. The food is consistently lovely and there is such great energy there. I never order from the menu. I always have one of their specials. Love this place! As a suggestion, if you're going for lunch... More

Must go here everytime I go to SF....let me tell you...you will wait, you need to have all your party here to be seated, and it will be a tight fit.....BUT.....so worth it!!!! You get there, sign in on the wipe off board and pray the diners inside eat fast...then when you're eating, you totally understand the reason for your... More

Anchor Oyster Bar has been my favorite since 1997 when I started to travel to SF (and eventually live here). The decor hasn't changed since I've started to come here and it doesn't look at all dated so they must spend a lot of time with silent upkeep. The food is classic American seafood, but it is always so fresh... More

Well my ex husband Ron chose this place. Crab cakes were yummy. I had a small salad with shrimp, was good. He had the clam chowder. People eating up a storm. Counter and tables kinda casual. On a bus route on Castro Street.
