Chapeau is a fine dining restaurant with great charm. Its location, outside of the downtown area, is a relief from the noise and density of central San Francisco. The food is exquisite and the wine list is deep. There is a full bar if you like cocktails. Go early for reduced prices and easier parking. Highly recommended.

As most yelpers have said you can go in looking fancy shmancy or go casually, no need for intimidation since it's a French restaurant. No judging from the staff or the other people that go there. It's fancy with a casual vibe! They have awesome prices as far as three/four course menus go. Decent price for a coursed meal that... More

This is a nice place to go for special occasions and for regular dining. Prices are not too high if you go with the fixed menus, currently $45 for 3 courses. Waitstaff is very helpful and charming although sometimes a little difficult to understand due to the French accent. Creamed corn soup with prawn was delicious. Food in general is... More

Had a lovely meal with my husband and parents at this San Francisco standby. Husband had a duck salad that was absolutely delicious. Dad, who is a tough restaurant critic (and frequent diner in Paris) pronounced his meal "superb". It's crowded and busy but the owner circulates frequently and make sure that everyone is attended to. He greets you with... More

A little overpriced for a honest dinner in a busy bistro. The beet salad with oranges was okay. The skate wing a little overcooked while the bone marrow with the beef was a little undercooked.

We've started coming here every couple of weeks - mostly because the wine list is so fabulous and the wine pairing recommendations from Chef Phillipe are always perfect. It's hard to find decently priced wine lists that are centered around French wine in San Francisco, and the owner has lovingly crafted a very exciting list. I also like the very... More

Based on TA reviews we booked here as our grand finale dinner on our last night in SF. We arrived a bit early for our reservation and Phillipe greeted us in a warm, welcoming and gracious way, seating us at a high top table with water and a fine wine list while we waited for our third party to arrive.... A short cab ride from the CBD, this gem is worth the taxi fare! The menu items encompasses very well executed French cuisine. Wonderful flavours ... I thoroughly enjoyed my Salade Landaise. As far as hospitality Chef Phillipe seemingly appears out of nowhere to welcome you and to ensure you are enjoying your experience. In our case, he picked up... More

I have been to Chapeau about 4 times now and it used to be one of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco! My husband and I had our first date at this restaurant and it was so romantic. The tables are set properly and they make sure that you are taken care of. The food we had here (prior to... More

I was recommended to go to Chapeau at my next visit to San Francisco. What a good idea! I truly got a new favorite over here! A bit remote location, but the atmosphere and the food was worth the while finding it. The chef greeted me welcome, so I chose his full menu of the day. An excellent choice paired... More
