Chapeau! is normally open just at dinner time, but on Mothers Day they also do a lunch service, to which we went. As usual, the food was outstanding and the selections quite broad. For those who love French food, this is a great place to go in the Inner Richmond area of San Francisco. We started with the French onion... More

I was recommended to the restaurant and tried it last night. We dined early to take advantage of the Early Bird menu - $33.75 for a three course meal with such great choices it was difficult to make a decision - the restaurant was busy so clearly this was well-known. There were other fixed menu choices at higher prices as... More

We were greeted warmly and seated promptly when we walked in by the chef and owner Philippe Gardelle. We were expecting it to be a bit more stuffy but the ambiance was fairly casual. The menu is setup for you to make your own multi-course meal with a fixed price making the prices very reasonable for food of this caliber.... More

The food is excellent .. I would definitely recommend this place to any French cuisines lover! The atmosphere is incomparable to anything I've had lately.

A friend recommended this restaurant and we really enjoyed our experience. It was a little out of the way from out hotel but, oh well! We both chose the 3-course menu for $40 each and hubby had mussels, duck and apple tart and I had the onion soup - delicious, monkfish - yum and the french toast which my server... More

First, the good: The food, as most reviewers state, is very good. I disagree with reviewers who believe it is the best French food in San Francisco, but it is good. I don't know what other folks ate that led them to conclude that the prices are amazing. Our meal came to $175 for two people (including tip, mind you).... More

Came for the early bird prix fixe (say like: "pree feeks", yes, I had to look it up) and we were very happy with the service, the quality of the food and the value. On this visit, we were surrounded by a more senior crowd who also enjoy early dinner (we're in our 40's). We started with a glass of... More

Chapeau is a little hard to find, and stuck in a neighborhood everybody goes to for Burmese and Korean food, but it managed to become our favorite French restaurant in the city. We've never gone wrong with anything on the menu, from the wine to the desserts, and the chef always comes out and says hello and checks to see... More

First of all, I am an unashamed foodie. My Honda Civic is 14 years old, but I spend a considerable amount of money on my groceries - I like Whole Foods, Bi-Rite Market, Lunardi's, etc. Chapeau is hands down my favorite French restaurant in San Francisco - I have eaten at La Folie, Rue Lepic, Fleur de Lys, and Jeanne... Always friendly and always delicious. You will most likely meet the chef/owner when you arrive and expect a warm French double kiss when you leave. In addition to the food being wonderful the prices are very reasonable. Parking is a bit difficult - but worth driving around to find a spot.
