I have been to Chapeau about 4 times now and it used to be one of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco! My husband and I had our first date at this restaurant and it was so romantic. The tables are set properly and they make sure that you are taken care of. The food we had here (prior to... More

I was recommended to go to Chapeau at my next visit to San Francisco. What a good idea! I truly got a new favorite over here! A bit remote location, but the atmosphere and the food was worth the while finding it. The chef greeted me welcome, so I chose his full menu of the day. An excellent choice paired... More

We loved all the food and the people were very friendly. I definitely will go again sometime. The filet mignon was excellent and for dessert I recommend the French toast.

Chapeau is not only a great place to eat but somewhere other restaraunt owners should visit to see how it should be done. Phillipe and Ellen Gardelle are hands on and it shows. A fabulous wine list with some Burgundy bargains compliments a perfectly executed menu in a very relaxed setting. This is now a must go to when in... More

This is a fabulous neighborhood French bistro. The place was busy on a Sunday night, so make sure to make reservations. The make your own 3 course meal for $40 is a steal. Both the duck and the cassoulet were wonderful!

Yikes. Been meaning for some time to go to this (generally well-regarded) restaurant only 10 minutes' walk from home. The first time will be the last time. O booked the bar but was given a high table with stools by the front window, way too close to the door. It meant blasts of cold air each time someone entered or... More

In a town full of outstanding restaurants, this unassuming, cozy French bistro in a pedestrian neighborhood is a real surprise. From the warm welcome by the chef the minute we stepped in the door to the final sip of armagnac with the luscious baked Alaska, the experience was outstanding. Friendly attentive service, each dish beautifully served and expertly prepared, a good... More

My boyfriend is French and he loves the food here, so that should tell you something. Me? I normally don't like writing reviews so the fact that you are reading this review is because I love everything about this place. We live in San Diego and found this place by luck on Thanksgiving day in 2012 and since then we... More

To quote my favorite traveling companion, it's been a long time since we had a meal where, start to finish, every bite was extraordinary. We began with a perfectly made martini, shaken till ice formed and garnished with blue cheese olives. Our appetizers were escargots, salade landais and the salmon trio. The escargots were very good and traditional in style... More

We dined at Chapeau during a recent get away from our east coast home. With an abundance of restaurants to choose from we didn't want to make a bad choice. Chapeau was recommended to us by my sister-in-law who lives in Portland OR and makes frequent trips to San Francisco. She has very high standards so we followed her lead... More
