We we staying in the Mission district, and came across Esperpento quite by accident. We couldn't have been more delighted! Although there is a good sized entree menu, the three of us feasted on about 12 selections from the Tapas menu (plus some wine, naturally). OK, the calamari was a bit over done, but absolutely everything else was superb. Prices... More

Went here for tapas before leaving, after a local recommended it. Truly the best Spanish food I've had outside of Spain. The sangria y the Jason Serrano is a must!

We had tapas, sangria, corona, paella, and two dinner combo plates. I had garlic chicken with potatoes and zucchini. It was delicious, even better than some food I've had in Spain! But the waiter was so unresponsive to us, gave one-word answers, when we said someone received the wrong meal he shrugged, and just had a complete poker face the... More

We had an assortment of tapas for lunch here, and enjoyed them all. Very tasty albondigas, and the patatas bravas were classic, albeit the pieces somewhat larger than we were served in Spain. And a very good white bean salad. Friendly service.

Tonight is our last night in San Fran and we have decided that we will go to the Mission District and eat at a Spanish restaurant, Esperpento. The wine was cheap and good, the food fantastic! We had tapas of anchovies, jamon, clams in a spicy sauce, white beans with chorizo and calamari. The restaurant is very buzzy, inexpensive and... More

Four of us had dinner Saturday evening to celebrate a 50th birthday - had a great time! We ordered several tapas dishes and the seafood paella for 2 to share - fantastic!! Spicy potatoes were delicious - and the paella was perfect! The sangria was the perfect drink for the evening! For dessert we had flan (fantastic) and the chocolate... More

This is a great place: tapas are delicious, and the it's a cozy friendly place. Their sangria is also nice (maybe they could increase the wine ratio a little!) We tried the quail, rice, and calamari, they all tasted great.

It is the best paella ever! Over loaded with seafood hugh portons!! And on Monday for two is only $24.00. No one can ever eat it all so you have lunch/dinner for the next day. Beverages are great as is the service and they have the best prices on the spanish ham sealed in plastic to take home! Less expensive... More
