This used to be a good go to mid range Indian restaurant. Went there years later this weekend (as there are many other options now) and food was awful. Ordered Rogan Josh...swimming with onions and no flavor. The saag paneer....can't get that wrong was spinach with paneer and again no flavor. Finally the seekh kebab...hard as rock. I would not... We went twice to this restaurant in Union Square and both times we felt the food was really good : Indian and not 'American Indian' as sometimes happens in these restaurants. This among other things also meant that they spiced the food precisely as they do in India, and did not make food bland for customers not used to the... More

My brother-in-law and I were on a 'tram-spotting' holiday in San Francisco and our last night was at the New Delhi restaurant on Ellis Street. Doesn't look much from the outside but minside is a different kettle of fish. Marble columns etc. add to the lovely atmosphere. The meal was excellent as well.

I had the non vegetarian dinner for $26.95. The tandoori chicken was very good. The rest of the meal ranged from mediocre (nan and rice) to really bad (bland and watery) chicken masala and mixed vegetable curry.

Food was good though was ill expensive. We went there twice. First nite we ordered A La carte n it came out to be around $25 each n food was very spicy. Friends had asked for spicy believing American spicy is bland for Indian taste buds. But believe me it was spicy for me. Next day we ordered for Thali... More

I ate here with a college while on business in SF. He chose this, as he likes Indian cuisine. We arrived for lunch to find only 5 tables occupied (is that a sign?) in this large establishment. The decor is a bit dark and dreary for my taste, but we were here and I was ready to make the best... More

My first Indian meal in America and it was ok. The location is close to the hotels and not far from Union Square. Inside it is a bit rustic and the menus has seen better days but ten food was ok and the service was good. I had Badami Chicken, pilau rice and naan bread washed down with a kingfisher.... More

We loved that New Delhi was right around the corner from our hotel, and that they weren't too busy to seat 6 at short notice. We tried a variety of dishes, all good. Saag paneer and tandoori shrimp were stand-outs for me. This is a great place for a relaxed group dinner.

Satisfied my craving for Indian food, but was only average. The food was "okay," but not a place I would go back to for Indian food. Our waitress never once smiled. I ordered a chicken dish and asked for it to be spicy. It was mild at best and I could only find two (2) little small "pieces" of chicken... More
