As a vegetarian from the East Coast, the dining options in California are great! We stopped for lunch and were not disappointed. The menu is extensive and, even though it clearly says everything is vegan, I kept second guessing some of the menu items and felt compelled to confirm with the waitress. My wrap was good and my wife's stir... More

We had brunch on Saturday at Herbivore -- a 100% vegan breakfast/lunch/dinner restaurant in the Mission District. Suzanna had the Southwestern Tofu Scramble and I had the Combo Plate (Basil Pesto scramble plus a pancake). Both dishes were delicious though my scramble was a little too heavy on the salty pesto. One thing I appreciated (but perhaps others would not)... More

I eat exclusively vegetarian, so don't consider it "hippie" by definition, but this place is. And it is good. Had the lemongrass noodles and they smelled (and tasted) amazing. My husband had the mole "chicken" which was also really tasty. The service is friendly. They have a tiny patio out back that it nice, if there is space. Food comes... More

The cosy atmosphere is welcoming. Seating is clean, comfortable .. space for a good conversation. Service is swift, with a authentic smile. I had a soup with lasagne: they both were absolute tasteful, presented well at good temperature. Refill with water has been permanent with great attention. A place to come back ! All at good match value/ price.

I ate with great pleasure here. The tempeh burrito was fine. However for me they have a great deal of tofu, tempeh and seitan in their menu. I would prefer a bit more veggies like they do it in the Cafe Gratitude and abit less gluten products. It would be easy to use a corn wrap instead of a wheat... More

Perfectly situated in the Mission area, this restaurant offered the best vegan breakfast in SF by far. The selection of breakfast foods is excellent and the smoothies are the bester we've ever had. A must for any vegan in SF.

We came across this place as we were walking along the street searching for somewhere to eat. As a vegetarian and health freak I was delighted to come across the Herbivore! We were given a table straight away, food arrived quickly and the service was great. The food was delicious and great value, would definitely recommend. We walked from Castro... More

I love this place and have never been disappointed with the meals I get here. Every time I've visited San Fran, I make sure to get here as fast as possible and get my fix. This visit I got the ginger

I am not a vegetarian, but I have many vegetarian friends so I have sampled my share of vegetarian dishes. I must say that Herbivore menu is the best so far. The restaurant is a bit dark, but very casual. I felt comfortable there because it wasn't too loud, the area was clean, and there weren't that many people. I... More

This place is superb. They serve an eclectic mix of food- Italian, mexican, Thai, Asian and yet their preparations are superb and I dont think the meat eaters would ever miss the meat. Its also very casual setting and reasonably priced. We tried their Lasagna- which had tofu instead of cheese I could not believe how good it was. I... More

From burritos to bicyclists, the Mission is the foundation for all things hip in the city. Cultural attractions, an independent arts community, sumptuous street murals and a high density of bars and cafes make this neighborhood a magnet for young people. While terrific inexpensive food is abundant, its top-of-the-line restaurants now compete with the city’s best for fashionable diners.
