Fabulous setting, excellent food

All our apps and entrees were well prepared and creative. The only downside was that it took forever for them to arrive.

I went here for a baby shower brunch of someone that had worked there... so the management and staff were obviously wildly attentive, fun, and real. The champagne overflowed, and the hookups were obvious when we got our bill. It isn't a cheap place, but in the end of the gluttony, pleasure.... and brown sugar coated thick sliced bacon which... Foreign Cinema is really a fantastic cool restaurant, with great atmosphere and food. The rough, yet stylish place has an outdoor patio where foreign movies are projected on the wall. We had a delicious chicken course, really a signature dish. A must if you are in SF! Casual elegant!

The restaurant is divided into four sections:upstairs, patio, Art Gallery and main room/bar. The glassed in patio shows b/w films on the back wall and is slightly more casual than the main room with its high ceilings, large floral arrangements and elevated fireplace. One of the few good restaurants still using tablecloths:sets a nice tone and helps with noise control. Exellent... More

Went to dinner on a Wednesday night and the service was great. Food was pretty good, not great (my entree was slightly salty. Would definitely recommend. Bar located next door had an awesome DJ and nice bartender.

I know I'm alone in my reviews of this restaurant. Believe me, I was super excited to eat here after hearing all of it's rave reviews and kudos. Maybe my expectations were just too high but I was not impressed. Aside from it's beautiful lighting and it's charming premise, it's just another restaurant. I picked this restaurant due to its... Usually I take my good friend a retired Roman Catholic priest to Foreign Cinema because he loves food and good wine and this restaurant is consistently the best for all of that and atmosphere. Of course the wait staff is above very good, I would have to say excellent. They know the menu, they know the wine, they know how... More

This restaurant was wonderful. The food was delicious, the service was excellent and the portion sizes were good for the price. We loved it all the way around.

We love the ambiance of this restaurant. The long open dining room, the movie playing -- it feels like it is Christmas and now to the food. It is good and relatively reasonably priced We loved the appetizers (we had oysters smoked salmon) and the stuffed quail with rice. it was one of the best preparation of quail we have... More

Staying in Mission District

Neighborhood Profile
Mission District
From burritos to bicyclists, the Mission is the foundation for all things hip in the city. Cultural attractions, an independent arts community, sumptuous street murals and a high density of bars and cafes make this neighborhood a magnet for young people. While terrific inexpensive food is abundant, its top-of-the-line restaurants now compete with the city’s best for fashionable diners. Indulge as the locals do by heading to Mission Dolores Park, buy some ice cream, and savor one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the country.
