Unique and charming spot

This place is filled with charm. When you enter it looks like an old movie theatre. The courtyard area shows old films on the back wall while the inside room offers some old world charm. From the street, you would not guess the amazing restaurant behind these big doors. We only got wine and oysters but service was good, food too and atmosphere just awesome. I have to say everything on the menu seemed delicious. A worth-it splurge.

First stop at the bar and order the bartender's special. Whatever it is, it will be good. Then definitely wait for the outside table where you can see the featured film, and listen through the old drive-in speakers if you want. We ordered pork chops and they were marvelous; the trout was even better! We really liked the service, the... More

We Had reservation for 6:30pm, when I arrived I asked a couple of times for a table outside and the hostess was rude and indifferent

Pretty chic and happening place in the Mission District! Had a great selection of fresh oysters from around the US and a decent wine list. Eclectic mix of flavors, from Hawaii, Continental and Asian. If you aren't too hungry, work through the oysters and some of their appetizers (called Urban Premieres) Wouldn't mind going back!

Not sure what happened but this was a disappointing establishment from the start. Based on the recommendation and ratings this is definitely a hit or miss establishment with the hopes of the food carrying the service. The service and etiquette standards at the hostess station definitely needs an update or an overall upgrade, ATTITUDE like its going out of style... More

It's out in mission a slightly less salubrious area so we were a bit taken aback at first Cinema is a slight misnomer too there is a screen but you can only really see it if you are in the conservatory bit. So probably just the building was a cinema. V busy on our Sunday visit and could not get... More

We went with family who have been frequently and we were warmly welcomed even though they hadn't been there in awhile. We sat outdoors and the heaters worked well, even with just a sweater on. At dusk, the restaurant shows movies on the giant white brick wall in the middle of the restaurant in the outdoor portion. Maltese Falcon that... More

One of the best brunch experiences we have ever had. Loved the pop tart! The Bloody Mary was outstanding. The setting itself is great. We can't wait to return for dinner and to see a film.

If you want to dine and not be rushed, Foreign Cinema is the place. We were a group of seven. We enjoyed a few appetizers-especially enjoyed the Kale Caesar Salad. It should be noted that the menu changes frequently and, while that is a good thing, something you may really like might not be there next time. Everyone enjoyed their... More

Staying in Mission District

Neighborhood Profile
Mission District
From burritos to bicyclists, the Mission is the foundation for all things hip in the city. Cultural attractions, an independent arts community, sumptuous street murals and a high density of bars and cafes make this neighborhood a magnet for young people. While terrific inexpensive food is abundant, its top-of-the-line restaurants now compete with the city’s best for fashionable diners. Indulge as the locals do by heading to Mission Dolores Park, buy some ice cream, and savor one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the country.
