The atmosphere was nice. A little strange as the location is full of lower-middle class people outside but the people inside were more toward middle/upper class. Service was great and the food was excellent. The port chop came out under-cooked but they replaced it within a few minutes! It was cooked to perfection and super juicy. It's IMHO the best... More

I love this restaurant and visit it any time I am in San Francisco. The unique atmosphere (with a movie showing on a huge screen in one of the eating areas) is extremely enjoyable, and some of the unusual menu selections always keeps it a very unique experience. I love it!

This is urban dining at its best. A large covered patio dining area with one end a painted white wall with foreign films playing, while inside a quasi-industrial feel for diners who want to be a little more enclosed (great bar at the back). The food was best quality, with delicious appetizers (I recommend the poached shrimp), and the entrees... More

Recently,a group of my friends visited Foreign Cinema for dinner. We took the BART and walked from 20th which is a little sketchy, but better than 16th.The cocktails at the bar were outstanding, and I would high recommend trying one.The main dining area is open and well decorated, makes you forget were you are.We started with appetizers, and all were excellent. One couple had been there... This place was a recommendation from my brother and a friend of mine. Guess I would never got in, if it wasn't for the recommendation. This place is fantastic and special. We let it flow and asked for whatever the waiter suggested. The oyster options are tons and wonderful. The idea of having a movie played in the place made... More

I was very excited to try this restaurant after reading the reviews. I booked a reservation online far in advance and my husband and I dragged our butts to this restaurant even with exhaustion setting in. When we got there our table was not ready and we were told we could wait in the bar attached, but we were rudely... More

We got a gift card from a friend for Foreign Cinema before we visited SF so only knew about this place from their recommendation. It's a stunning spot with great al fresco dining and a fantastic atmosphere. There's such a buzz outside when it's busy. You'll need to book here too!

Got invited to a private party was pleasantly surprised. Do not let the outside appearances fool you. This is a great spot in the Mission District. Entering hallway off the street you feel taken to another world. The dining room is open and airy, but the banquet room was better. A nice stocked bar at one end and plenty of... More

And the food too! Great ambience-- live the motion pictures along with the grand fireplace. Cozy in the winter and perfect for a holiday work dinner. Chef is amazing and food unique! Loved the duck and unusual appetizers. I like it so much that I've been back!

My partner and I had dinner here on the first night of our honeymoon. The food and wine were both nice, if not especially memorable. The abiding memory though was of being cold, sat at the screen-end of the outdoor seating area, despite the nearby gas heater. The restaurant was unable to relocate us when we complained about the cold.... More
