Watch Old Movies and Great Food

Oysters, Fine Wine and Good Company. Met old colleague and friends at Foreign Cinema. It epitomises the great restaurants around Mission St and is a must try for a place with a different appeal.

A very unique dining experience, laid-back and casual atmosphere with an over-the-top menu and chef. I can't wait to go back!

We had dinner here - and enjoyed the atmosphere. The service is efficient and they had a really good wine list. The food is pretty good but not quite as good as it was on our last visit about 4 years ago. While my husband's five spice duck was outstanding, the swordfish was nice but not wonderful with too many... More

The best seating is in the court yard where the movie screen is playing - the acoustics are better and there is more space between tables. Had a delicious dinner - would share the dishes except the menu changes frequently and when I attempted to find the dish names, the menu has changed. I know it was a flank steak... More

If you are from out of town try and reserve before you get in town. You are probably going to need a reservation. Great ambiance and these folks know their food.. Extensive wine list is an understatement. Its a beautiful almost surreal dining experience. They go out of their way to make sure the food is prepared just the way... More

Make sure you have a reservation before coming to this restaurant. The food is really great along with service. It's quite packed, a bit noisy, good for group gathering and not so much for a cozy dinner. They have sitting arrangement in the open air and also inside. If you want to try some good American Food this is a... More

The vibe is great here and the food most agreeable. Service could have been a little faster but it didn't take away from the overall positive experience. The outside patio is charming with its fairy lights and old movie projections. Would definitely go back. Book in advance as it did seem busy.

Our most recent fabulous meal and dining experience at Foreign Cinema was last Saturday night with server Melanie. The food was exceptional as always including chilled Maine lobster (also available hot) from their always excellent raw bar, Valhrona pot de crème for dessert, and apps including ahi, fondu and calamari and an excellent Sauvignon Blanc suggestion from Melanie. Both our... More

a perfect start to a saturday morning --having brunch at foreign cinema with a close friend! the space is incredible, both indoors and outdoors. we were seated indoors which had a very open and spacious feel. we ordered a few items off their innovative menu i.e. "balsamic fried farm eggs, roasted garlic-fingerling potato hash, winter chicories, la quercia prosciutto." everything... The whole idea of replicating an old cinema is great, and it already works fine in many european countries (this style of restaurant is fairly standard, especially during summer). When entering the restaurant be prepared to be (un)welcomed by a hostess with the worst attitude I've ever seen in my whole life --if you hate your job that much quite!... More

Staying in Mission District

Neighborhood Profile
Mission District
From burritos to bicyclists, the Mission is the foundation for all things hip in the city. Cultural attractions, an independent arts community, sumptuous street murals and a high density of bars and cafes make this neighborhood a magnet for young people. While terrific inexpensive food is abundant, its top-of-the-line restaurants now compete with the city’s best for fashionable diners. Indulge as the locals do by heading to Mission Dolores Park, buy some ice cream, and savor one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the country.
